The Netherlands is not know by it's prominent Doom Metal scene I think, but maybe Elizium is here to prove that we were wrong if we ever though that no good Doom can come from down there.
Elizium was formed in 1991, and after a Demo the band broke up and formed back to life some years ago, the result of the reunion was this Demo-Cd "Angel Of Mistrust".

Elizium is a hard Cd to digest I must say, it took me a while to listen and to review (my apologies to the band for this), but after several weeks and listens, I found out what to say about this Angel Of Mistrust.

While many Doom bands this days tries too hard too sound melancholic, and does the impossible to reflect their depressive mood and dismal agonies, Elizium reflects those emotions through 2 elements, the vocals and the keyboards.

Peter Berends handle the vocal duties on the band, and he's not afraid to use some vocals effects on his mic, which adds an special touch to the sound of Elizium.
The keyboards, while not majestic and bombastic, add the perfect touch of melancholy that each song requires, I'm afraid that without these two elements, the band would, well? suck.

"Reflecting Eyes" opens the album, with great keyboards, and excellent vocals, this song has the catchiest chorus in the album, this tack kept me singing "maybe if I close my eyes?" just listen to it, and you'll finish that phrase with me.
Other songs that leaved a good impression upon my ears were "Fall Of Lucifer" with it's imposing keyboards and "Rape Of Creed" a nice variation from the rest of slow paced songs in the Demo-album.

The rest of the songs are ok, but not all satisfy my eccentric ear, luckily enough, those 3 songs are worth to pop in the Cd into the player once in a while.
Elizium, can achieve big things if granted with a better production, a wider musical variety and better presentation, in means of cover art, booklet etc.

Elizium, Doom Metal from the Netherlands, recommended for all classic Doom Metal fans, emotional vocals and gloomy keyboards awaits to anyone that dares to discover Elizium? from The Netherlands.
