Spirituality and distortion.

Igorrr is quite an interesting project created by the hands of Gautier Serre, and to be honest, it's not very easy to listen to. Have you ever asked someone who you're just getting to know what kind of music they listen to, and they reply they like all kinds of music? Well, while that statement isn't true, Igorrr is a clear example of "all kinds of music" mixed dancing together in a record (not all kinds of music, but close enough): Folk, black metal, hardcore, electronic music, death metal, classical music, and many other music genres; a polychromatic scene.

Having said this, for some it might be too difficult to find Igorrr entertaining. But if you're open enough to dive into any music genres, as your personal musical journey, you're most likely to love them.

Igorrr's Spirituality And Distortion is quite an ambitious album that offers a non-ending blizzard of sounds. The album starts really softly by taking us to a journey in the desert, but this journey is quite different, since it adds that particular Igorrr sauce to make it a bit heavy to prepare us for what is coming. With "Nervous Waltz", Laure's vocals go all out to delight us with something majestic while dancing to classical music passages and distorted guitars. This song also introduces the particular Igorrr electronic sound that is fully displayed in "Very Noise". The tension increases and increases to surprise us with a strange blast of distorted guitars and dubstep sections. In the following tracks, Igorrr keeps going heavier and getting more progressive while still combining electronic and baroque, the real signature from Igorrr. This heaviness had to explode at some point, which is why George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher shows up in the 6th track, screaming and growling while also engulfed in an odd display of 8-bit-ish sounds that quickly evolve into dubstep. Gautier exposes himself as a genius with such an entertaining and unique experience.

As if the previous panorama wasn't enough, "Musette Maximum" breaks down it all and brings a truly crazy and hilarious passage of insanity between the accordion and the mad screams (I was laughing my ass off with this one). Truly a masterpiece to continue with Savage Sinusoid's Cheval.

In the following tracks, Igorrr keeps exploring the "Spiritual" side of this marvelous album while also going all heavy with catchy riffs and endearing vocals. The entire album is full of diversity and it's quite difficult to focus on one of the wide elements that make this album a masterwork. Despite that, every song is incredibly well written, and the transition between experimental, clean, electronic, opera-like and heavy passages leaves the listeners satisfied.

There is also another point to add in favor of Spirituality And Distortion in comparison to its previous albums. Igorrr's musicality reaches a new level after exploring Eastern styles, which gives this release its particular style and direction, and also sets a line between the spiritual and heavy aspects of the album. This Eastern style is showcased in tracks like "Downgrade Desert", "Himalaya Massive Ritual", "Lost In Instropection", or "Overweight Poesy". I'd like to take a moment to focus on how progressive "Himalaya Massive Ritual" is. Laure's vocals go beyond angelic and magnify the whole track to the point of making it ethereal (another great example of her exquisite vocals is "Polyphonic Rust"). Also, the incredibly piano-driven track "Lost In Instropection" makes the atmosphere reach that ethereal expression at its peak.

Overall, we could divide this album into 3 big sections: The Baroque-like part, the spiritual and Eastern-style section, and the heavy side with distorted guitars, growls and screams. The Baroque influences are very noticeable in tracks like "Nervous Waltz", "Paranoid Bulldozer Italiano" (from the middle part) and "Barocco Satani". Having said this, the electronic influences are also visible all over the album, providing us with great and explosive bursts of energy. Igorrr went all out with all its splendor and musical diversity to show off with its best release up to date, Spirituality And Distortion.

Quite an audacious review to tell you. While I would be one of those listening to 'all kinds of music' I still have to say this album was a tough one to fully grasp.

Overall - although I might not be too far from you with my own rating (gave it 9) expect some response on this web with that daunting score.

I don't mind the score at all, you give it what you think it deserves. I find Igorrr's music very ADHD at times but it is mostly enjoyable and always interesting, and I also think this is a very good album.

Congrats on your first review!

I retract my statement before this albums release that Gautier is tired and out of ideas.
I was wrong, this album is my favourite of his so far.
A thousand shames upon my family.

Considering this album has a score of 8.29 from 96 users currently, and that it was released in March, 2020 how come it is not featured in top 20 albums of 2020 - 2021?

That's an easy question: the band profile is 'invisible'.

Damn, would love to see Igorrr in the top 20s of 2020, the band sure deserves it's position there.
