For a country that has approximately 6 million habitants, Finland has a great deal of Metal bands, I wish we have as much bands as up there (Peru has 28 million habitants, and not even half of Metal bands that Finland have).

Statistics aside, we have yet another Metal band coming from Finland, this time, Degenerate present us their first Demo, and they're playing Melodic Death Metal. Wait, don't push the back button, and keep reading, I know many of you are tired of these Melodeath bands, all playing Gothenburg style and everything, but I assure you that Degenerate are different, well, maybe not THAT different from the rest of the pack, but at least they're good, that's got to worth something right?

The formula is quite easy, one guitar marking catchy and melodic lines, the other doing all the riffs, accompanied by the bass and the drums, which I found too buried in the mix, specially the double bass, you can hardly notice them, the vocals are ok I think, just a little dirty, but is a Demo, and not all bands have enough money to spend and invest in a high quality Demo, don't get me wrong, the production is fair enough, it has just some minor flaws here and there. But in general, Degenerate have a solid structure, firmly based in the riff work and those catchy hooks, all four songs are fine pieces of Death Metal.

For a Demo, is very well presented too, nice cover art, and everything, makes me happy when I receive Demos of bands that really make an effort to impress the people out there. My best wishes to all the guys at Degenerate, they have a lot to practice, and need to refine their sound a little, but this Demo was fun, fun to listen and fun to review (even if this Cd arrived like 2 months ago - sorry for the delay Jakob- ). I place my bet in Degenerate, and I'll wait for their next work, hopefully a full length under a record label.
