I've never been in Russia, never been in Europe, and while I plan to go there next year, I only have some images of the old continent, things I saw in TV, stories my friends told me and history books. But now I have a new reason to think about Europe, the cold forests, the snowy planes, the frozen rivers, the Liholesie album.

For those who thought this was another Black metal album, you were pretty wrong, to be honest this can't even be considered as Metal at all, is just Dark ambience music with some Folk influences, the result? A fantastic journey through forgotten lands, frozen autumns and ice-covered springs.

This one man project from Novosibirsk, Russia tries to tell us a tale, the tale of the land, of the soil and the woods, The name "Liholesie" means "Mirkwood" in English.
When listening this record, a magical essence captures your body and the only thing you can do is flow with the beautiful landscapes that the music creates for you. Songs range from slow atmospheric pieces to Folk marches, like Summoning without all the Tolkien references.

Among my favorite tracks are "Winter Comes ON Russian Land", "The Holiday" and "Primeval Rotation" , but in general all songs are quite enchanting, the best way to describe this is to mix Summoning, Era, Enya, and Vangelis in one big bowl, mix it well, and serve cold. There you go! A good 'ol homemade bowl of Liholesie.

You won't find great guitar solos or devilish shrieks, but rest assure that you'll be transported to a magical land, and the journey will be unforgettable. Next time I think about Europe, Liholesie will be in my thoughts.
