Emotive and well crafted

In Grey is a band that has struggled a lot in the scene, they've released 6 demos before this, their debut full-length album, and one might think that this band sucks big time because they're unsigned, well, think again.
Lesson 1 for all you kids: when a band signs a record contract doesn't mean that is good, as a matter of fact, I bet the bands you hate the most are signed to big labels right?
Lesson 2: The unsigned market is quite big, out there are many bands waiting for a lucky shot, and remember, your favorite bands were unsigned sometime.

Back on topic, In Grey is a Swedish band playing Gothic Metal with Doom overtones, their music is melancholic and emotional, for moments this reminds me of Katatonia and Paradise Lost in others. Songs are very varied, we have slow melancholic pieces like the exquisite "I Amaze", fast paced songs like "Mask" and "As Passion Turns To Hate", some growls can be listened here and there, like the lengthy closer "A Sun That Never Sets", in general all songs have a special quality.

I might add that for a self-released effort the production and presentation of the album is really professional, the whole package, cover art and booklet is very well done, sound-wise this is a great work, all instruments are in place and the mix is very well done also.

This kind of music is not new to anyone, you can find a lot of bands playing what In Grey plays. So maybe In Grey didn't invented a new genre or re-invented Gothic Metal, but needless to say, this is a great album and I just can believe these guys aren't signed yet. While we see crappy bands getting signed every day, the ones that really deserve it, remains under the shadows. Labels, it's time don't you think?
