Band: Beyon-D-Lusion
Album: First Step To The Source
Style: Gothic rock
Release date: 2004

01. Destitution
02. Out Of My Grasp
03. Into The Maze
04. Oriens (Ruins And Rise)

Another newcomer here, Beyond D Lusion hails from France, and I must say that the country of love is spawning really good bands lately, and very varied I must say, we have from Black to Gothic in the wide catalogue that offer us this country.

Alexandra and Mehdi are the two only members of this band, Midhi is known for his work as guitarist of Furia, and Alexandra? eh well, is the first time I hear about her, but nevertheless, she has a great voice, and the best thing is that she doesn't sing operatic! God knows I'm growing just a little bit tired of operatic vocals in female fronted bands, so they have one point in favor here.

I really like the powerful voice displayed by Alexandra in this 4 song Ep, I think is the strongest point here, because the compositions lack intensity and varied elements, although the Ep grows on you with every listen, I don't think the band has matured yet.

The first song, "Destitution" is a good opener? until I realized that the main riff of the song sound exactly as the principal riff in Metallica's "Master Of Puppets" rip-off? Tribute? Coincidence? I'm not the one to judge it. "Out Of My Grasp" is a more mellow song, with great keyboards, while "Into The Maze" is more Catchy and features excellent back up keys, I think is my favorite song in the Ep? Last song "Oriens (Ruins And Rise)" is a song with keys and vocals only, no guitars whatsoever in this one, good closer for a full length album, but just a filler for a Ep.

I know to recognize talent when I hear it, and Beyond D Lusion can achieve something if they work hard in the compositions, you can't rely only on a powerful voice.
But I know this is their first Ep, and they need to know more about their capacities, and push further their creativity, the result of this, I'm sure is going to be impressing. Best of lucks for Beyond D Lusion.

"Beyon-D-Lusion" is a project from France due to the meeting of two really good musicians. Alexandra Bernard and Medhi Khadouj . For the ones who already know "Furia", you know like me that Medhi his certainly one of the reasons which do, due to his very good talent of writing, that this band is one of the best newcomer from France since a lot of time. This is not a surprise then, if I say that this new project with the great voice of Alexandra is one of the best things that I listened to this year. More than a surprise, this band could become very quickly one of the most promising bands from France.
