Hey, this was a surprise, I got this album from a band totally unknown to me, Widow, the cover art was very cheesy, four guys holding on their guitars creating a green lightning with them? if this cover art doesn't has a phallic connotation, it means I've read to much Freud in my spare time, in any case you'll be the judge of this.

Anyway, so I began listening this, the first track "The Pleasure Of Exorcism" had an interesting intro, a girl moaning and a acoustic version of the theme from The Exorcist, really short but enticing, after the short intro, the song began, and let me tell you that my first impression was quite negative.

Heavy Metal á la Maiden and Judas Priest is something we've heard thousand times, and when I heard the first minutes of the opener song of Widow debut album "Midnight Strikes" I though that I was in front of another wannabe copycat of some great Metal legend. But I was wrong, because later that song I found out that Widow are not your typical fast-riffin-drum-pounding-high-notes-singin Heavy Metal bands, to counter all of this, they have also some harsh vocals!!!

Yes, some harsh vocals in a classic Heavy Metal band, who wished a band like that a long time ago? I know I did, now we can have the melodies and arrangements of classics like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, combined with the harshness of Children Of Bodom and others, just a great combination in my opinion.

Songs like "Angel Sin", No Stone Unturned" and "Nightchild" will make you headbang with the great guitar work and nostalgic reminiscences of the eighties, coupled with some great growls and screams, that's the stuff!
