Once again it has come to a Tribute album, the kind of album you'll either love or hate.
Normally I'm not that fond of these kinds of albums, I think they are pretty useless, why gather an album with just covers? I mean, almost every band does fine covers on their own albums, aren't that enough?
But once in a while, there comes some pretty decent tribute albums as well, and this is one of those, even if I'm a bit pissed at Remedy for just sending one of two disc within the promotion copy, that's low Remedy, that's very LOW!

Anyway, I'll do my best with just half of the material, even if I would like to have the rest of it too.
The first thing that comes to my mind is that you have some pretty established bands contribution, like the opening StormWarrior, which old-Helloweenish Power Metal has done very well lately.
But also larger bands like Paragon, Dark Age, Perzonal War and Necronomicon contributes on this tribute to the NWoBHM heroes.

The second thing I noticed was the cover, that's done by no less than Dirk Illing, that done covers for the real Saxon once, that's a pretty nice addition, I think.
But it's mainly the music we should pay attention too.
And as I said, this is one of few tributes I think is good, of course some people will hate it, it's unavoidable, but some will also like it.

There isn't much else to say, I can just bring forward good and bad things, and the good you already have above, and the bad? Well, the class difference between the good and the less-good bands are quite high, so I can't say that the whole record is even, some bands sounds like the just started play, then you have the more mature bands that outplay the younger bands with miles.

But among the better bands I have to say that StormWarriors version of "Power And the Glory" is good, very good cover. And also Dark Age's version is pretty original, "Heavy Metal Thunder" with harsh vocals, a nice addition among many Power Metal bands. Plus Perzonal War's great cover of "Solid Ball of Steel", and last my personal Saxon favourite "Rainbow Theme - Frozen Rainbow", here covered by Solitude, the original is better but with this song, no band can fail.

So overall I have to say that this tribute is ok, it's nothing you should kill to get, but you could easily buy it if you're a fan of Saxon and wants some nice covers of these legends.
Or it's a nice gift to a Metal fan I guess, I wouldn't be unhappy if I got it.

Check Out: StormWarrior - "Power And the Glory", Dark Ago - "Heavy Metal Thunder", Perzonal War - "Solid Ball of Steel" & Solitude "Rainbow Theme - Frozen Rainbow".
