No Doom here whatsoever?

Yes, don't let the name fool you, we're not dealing here with the next Doom Metal sensation of the Metal scene, and sadly, we're not dealing either with the next Melodic Death Metal sensation neither. Anvil of Doom was formed back in 1996, and after approximately 12 line-up changes, they got to release their first full-length, and they had to wait only 8 years! Lucky bastards.

I don't what to think of this one, I mean, it doesn't suck if you ask me directly, but neither does it rocks. It's just Melodeath, very well played and with interesting ideas, but still, lacks the surprise element; I get over and over the "I've heard this before" feeling.

Although some memorable moments can be rescued from the album, the overall experience is not an unforgettable one. The good thing about the band is that they seem to expand their music further than Death Metal, some heavy and Power Metal riffs and arrangements can be found here and there, but I think that the whole album needs to be more cohesive in terms of composition and songwriting. The band relies in catchy riffs and the vocals of Beltrán; he can growl, shriek, scream and also do some clean singing, pretty multifunctional guy.

Although I didn't found this record memorable or special in any way, fans of Melodic Death Metal will found this record much more attractive than I did, I could bet that. For those still doubtful about buying this record, check out "Millennium" and "Mr. Suic'hyde".
