When I first saw the cover of this album I thought "Man?another Progressive band ripping-off Dream Theater?Damn" but dear reader I was so wrong. Maniaca is nothing like Dream Theater, this band is not even Progressive (but it's very experimental though), this album combines many genres marvelously. The main vein is Death Metal of course, but then there are Doom Metal atmospheres (just check "Prelude"), I actually heard some Thrash Metal Riffs, the vocal work sounds a lot like Black Metal and the music per se is really experimental (Try "The Immortal", 16 minutes of song)

The album is insanely good, the music is layered and structured; most riffs are really catchy and aggressive at the same time; the Bass-Lines are loud and clear, and also those Bass-Lines always appear in the right moment (Pauses, Bridges and Breakdowns); The Drumming is also great, there are irregular beats and crazy timing in most songs. So as you can see (by following the summary) instrumentally speaking this band is marvelous.

"Das Gesetz", this tune is fucking something; everything from the harsh intro to the ending of the track is like a big hammer pulverizing your brain. The main riff is catchy as hell, and is in this particular track where every Metal Genre amalgamates into just one, The Black Metal voice is there along with the Doom Metal Feeling, Death Metal shows up in the middle of the song showing a great melodic Guitar Solo and finally the song ends with a really bizarre synthesizer epilogue; so yes this tune is actually impressive.

I enjoyed this album a lot, I know most hybrids are boring and somehow monotonous, but not "Maniaca", this band is actually the contrary of boring, yes I know the big mixture of genres will make you wonder a lot, but believe me, you can't lose by getting this album.
