Methylenedioxyamphetamine Metal ?

EyeMDX-tasy, did you read well the album title? It has to be the weirdest album name I've heard in a while, I can't really tell if the title refers to some strange concept mortals can't understand, or if it's drug related (Ecstasy MMDA -Methylenedioxyamphetamine-) or is something the band just came up with. But that's not the point right? But I'll say that the title goes perfect for the album, Asgaard doesn't play straight forward music to say it so.

This Polish band plays a somewhat slightly experimental Black Metal with Gothic overtones, the best asset of the band is definitively Przemyslaw, the vocalist. This guy can growl, can shriek, can sing clear and reach impressive scales, he has an amazing voice, no doubts about it.

Musically the band plays experimental Gothic Black Metal as I said before, some Avant-gardish elements can be spotted here and there, sometimes the band reminds me of Arcturus. Sadly the band doesn't reach the quality level as the Norwegians.
The band also uses some electronic samples on their songs, but personally, I think they're a little to "trance" for me, I prefer more subtle electro sampling like drum n' bass, IDM and even "lounge" stuff (although lounge isn't really a genre), the band chooses to use electro more influenced by danceable sub-genres like Trance and Techno, although the whole electro thing is quite buried in the mix, just to make clear: this is not an electro Metal record.

Some songs are ok I think, like "Eyes On Thy Soul" and "Infernal Mask Ceremony", the rest of songs are not bad at all, but sometimes they don't sound too cohesive, they lack a string that tie the different sections of each song, a thing that unite them, without that is only some ideas randomly placed and turned into a song.

The album has nice production, very cool artwork (cover and inside booklet) and nice musicianship, although the keyboards sounded too cold and lifeless to me.
Asgaard might be on the road of becoming Poland's premier Avant-garde act, but they have to travel a long road and fix many glitches in their sound, until then, best of lucks.
