It could all have been better

You know, there's Metal everywhere in the world, from the largest city to the smallest rural town, there's always a Metalhead, and many of those Metalheads learn how to play instruments so later they can form their own band. Is an ancient tradition among us, Metalheads.

Now I found out some Metalheads in Serbia put together a band called Amentes, and I bet not many of you know this one right?
Well, Amentes play a mixture of Doom-Death Gothic Metal and this is their debut album, self-released of course.

The music goes from rampaging blast melodies to soothing calmer moments, vocals range from your deep Doomy growl to some clear vocals, which sound really good.
The best asset of the band are the keyboards, they're always present in each moment, sometimes in the background adding atmosphere to the music, sometimes doing piano-style solos.

Songs are varied I can't deny that, I sense influences that range from early Katatonia to Opeth, but sadly the album fails convincing me. The band need to focus more on the songwriting, some songs get boring after a couple of minutes.
The production doesn't help also, while I understand this is a self-released album, the sound quality is below standards and that ruins a big part of the experience.

This is not a bad album by any means, despite technical problems, Amentes have something going on here and I would like to listen the next work of the band and confirm once and for all if Amentes is a talented band or they just got lucky with this album.

Anyway, feel free to try this album although I don't think is going to be very easy to find on your local music store. My advice is to go down their website, download a couple of songs and forge an opinion for yourself.
