First Born Evil is the first EP/demo of this Sicilian band formed in 2004. They are currently signed with the TAF Productions label - some of the members come from a band called Thy Anthem Fades, you get the idea? - and are ready to blast the world away with their powerful blackened death metal.

The songs on this EP are all very short, the longest only reaches 3:30 minutes, so as you guess they are not in a doomy or progressive mood. First Born Evil sneaks in, shatters your brain and runs away before you had time to realize what happened to you. The pace is fast, extremely fast. The rhythm section does a hell of a good job in keeping the pace at a high speed. You just don't get a single instant of calm all along these 24 minutes of ripping death metal.

I am particularly amazed at the fact that they had not been together as a band for more than one year when they recorded this EP. It all sounds almost too square, too professional for such a young band. We are in presence of a band that masters very well the art of good death metal. Listen to those pounding riffs, those sharp solos, those neat transitions and you'll realize that they could become big. This album flows smoothly from the beginning to the end and you don't get the feeling that they're repeating themselves. All the songs stick to a rather classical death metal but each has this little something that make it stand out. The evil, blackish atmosphere also adds a lot to the claustrophobic atmosphere this album brings.

My only (minor) complain would actually the production that is a bit muffled and doesn't really translate the power and the violence the songs emanate. But all in all this is an awesomely brutal debut. No doubt that with a little experience they could dig their spot in the metal scene.
