Infernum is one of the last signatures of the Portugese label Sound Riot, which lately decided to change its Metal orientation towards extreme music. If you don't know them yet; Infernum is a combo from Poland and they play good old classic Black Metal. We're not in front of a revolution, but "The Curse" will probably be a good correct album of Black Metal for the fans...

As I said in the introduction, there is nothing really new here, "The Curse" is a classic Black Metal release which use all the (already known) ingredients of the style. Their music is really similar to Mayhem if you need to have a comparison, the band play an aggressive Black with some mid tempo compositions. Add some grimy ambiances and some "church organ" keyboards and you can understand how it sounds. I don't find it bad, but let's be honest it's really generic and except if you're a "troo" fan of the style, I'm not sure that you'll have a lot of interest on this album.

Also, I don't know if the band considers this release to be an album but actually, with only 30 minutes of music and an outro, "The Curse" is more an EP than anything else. But at least, for a Black Metal release, the production is really good and I can't deny that the band released a really professional album. For a first try, this is actually promising but let's hope that they will find some good original ideas for their future productions because right now, even if it's not bad; there is nothing really attractive on this album.

I'm sure that the ones who like Black Metal will find some good things on "The Curse" but on the other side, it's a bit average and too much generic to expect a big success (even the name of the band and the title of the CD are super common). I say it again, nothing is bad on this album but it's soooo... classic that it's just boring at the end. Be sure that Infernum can produce good music but they really need to take some risks, right now it's just lifeless.
