Infaust hail from Germany and they have been around for a few years now. After they formed the ideal line-up they started working on their own compositions and thus we reach 2006 when they managed to release their debut album, "Des Schmerzes Macht".

Infaust are not playing something that innovative, but they know how to pay tribute to the black metal scene of the first half of the 90s and they do it really well and they prove this with the really strong "Des Schmerzes Macht", a very good opening for their course in the world of black metal! The guitar riffing is really powerful, it has that traditional razorblade sound, leaving at times a biter taste of melancholy in the air. Mortifer on the guitars proves that he knows how to compose some really strong riffs to evoke an unearthly feeling in the dreary atmosphere of Infaust, guitar riffing that blends really well with the work of Iskaremus and Sadistic M. on the rythm section. The drumming is high quality, offering here and there some really interesting passages, and never fails to keep the tempo on the most appropriate way sounding unerring, yet the bass lines make a slight pressence in the overall outcome of the compositions, but that's not ony a problem of Infaust, it's a general problem of the underground black metal scene, so don't worry, it' won't bother you too much, at least i think so. A very nice addition to the sound of Infaust has to be the wailing violin passages on "...Eines Trauernden Im Sinn" or the ones on the fourth track of "Des Schmerzes Macht", "Blutige Pracht", they definitely add another twisted sense of darkness and variety in the overall unholy atmosphere. Psycho is the name of the vocalist and what a coincidence! He definitely screams like a psycho whereas at other times he sounds more desperate unleashing his howls in the darkening atmosphere, like on the first minute of "Ein traum aus schmerz" or on "...Eines Trauernden Im Sinn" where he pours his soul while interpreting!

The album lasts less than 40 minutes while it consists of 9 compositions, something very positive since it won't bore the listener and will leave a very good impression and promises for a more delightful future in the scene!

If you're searching for an album that combines an unholy atmosphere with an oppressive/desperate feeling then Infaust's "Des Schmerzes Macht" is an album you could check, i don't think it will disappoint, i personally enjoyed it a lot.
