Back in 1992 when Baphomet released its first album, "The Dead Shall Inherit", the band was probably one of the only American Death Metal bands that didn't come from Florida. I don't think that it was a chance since the band disappeared some years later… But this yeard Peaceville will re-release the unique album of the band, "The Dead Shall Inherit".
Between Grind, Brutal Death and even old school Thrash from Bay Area, "The Dead Shall Inherit" is a really classic album of Death Metal. To be honest I listened a lot this release but I didn't find a lot of interest in this album. Why? Well, I don't really find any difference between each songs and at the end this lack of diversity is extremely boring. So ok it's not bad Death metal, at the opposite, the fans of the style will find all that they want to listen to. Strong riffs, blasting drums and vocals that directly come from a graveyard but well all the songs sound like if they all are the same and unique one.
At the end, even if the CD is re-mastered and even if the sound is more than ok now, this bad feeling of déja-vu is extremely boring. That's sad because it's not a bad release of Death Metal but after more than ten years, it's obvious that this album is a bit out of date now. Plus, let's be serious two minutes, if "The Dead Shall Inherit" is not a bad album it's not something outstanding too. So I'm not sure that this re-released version of the album was something essential except if you're someone nostalgic who is looking for old school underground Death Metal.
The fans of the style will probably enjoy this release but if you're into Death Metal and want to listen to only new original things, you can pass your way, "The Dead Shall Inherit" will not give you what you're looking for.

This album is awesome
Agreed. Definitely deserves more than a 6.2, good album, though not spectacular. |
