Spock's Beard chose to call their last album "Spock's Beard", and it's a perfect way to show to the fans that the band is alive and stronger than ever. Even after a long career and after the departure of Neal Morse, the band doesn't lack of inspiration. "Spock's Beard" (the album) is here to prove that the US combo is stronger than ever…
As always with "Spock's Beard", the music is groovy as hell. The band still plays Progressive music with a lot of keyboards and organs soli and well as always it's pretty good. You'll be able, of course, to find one more time some great ballads or mid tempos songs but on the other hand, some other ones like "On A Perfect Day" are real rock songs. The music of "Spock's Beard" is not so different than the one that we got during the Neal Morse's era but like with "Octane", it's obvious that we have a transition to something different, we have a real evolution, it's a lot more direct. It's not a bad thing, at the opposite I really like the new album and for sure this is one of the best releases of the band. Catchy, groovy, complex but not boring, this is a cool album of Progressive Rock which only give good vibes.
The performance of our four dudes is one more time extremely convincing. Well of course, these musicians have nothing to prove but it's always good to see that they always give their best to release something that the fans will enjoy for sure. And yes, Nick D'Virgillio with the drums or vocals proves one more time that he is a great singer and not only a drummer. The production is perfect, the sound is clean like pure water, at the end, if you like this kind of music I don't understand why you should miss this album. There are no reasons to do that…
"Spock's Beard" is a rally beautiful album and it seems that the departure of Neal Morse never didn't have any bad consequences on the quality of the music of the band. If you like Spock's Beard, you're probably already planning to buy this album I suppose, but you don't have to worry, you'll not be disappointed. If you still don't know this band and pretend to like Progressive music, "Spock's Beard" can be a good start for you. Highly recommended to all the fans of Progressive music.
