Who know, maybe that Blood Stain Child will become one day the new In Flames or the new Children Of Bodom. After all, their music is quite similar so why not? Though the big difference between these three bands is that Blood Stain Child doesn't come from Scandinavia but from Osaka, Japan. "Idolator" is the 3rd album of the Nippon and for sure, all the ones who like our two Nordic monsters will like this release (even if we cannot say that BSC didn't take a lot of risks with this album).
That's simple, "Idolator" sounds a bit like the last In Flames mixed with the technic of Children Of Bodom. We all know how influential and successful are these two bands in Japan so it's not so weird to start to see bands from this area which play the same kind of music. And the problem with Blood Stain Child and "Idolator" is that the band clearly copies the Swedish and Finnish combo. It's not bad, the songs are catchy and the alternation between English and Japanese is fresh and cool but musically speaking, it's a bit too much similar in my opinion. It will be nice if you're not looking for originality but if you like to see things different, you'll probably think that this album is just a rip-off. On the other hand, it's a good "rip-off", I mean that it's obvious that the band is able to play and write good songs, and remember they're young so with time and maturity maybe that we will have something a bit more personal later.
This is Tue Madsen (The Haunted) who co-produced the album so be sure that we don't have anything to say against the production. The sound is limpid the musical skill of the musicians is really good and our two guitarists are even able to play good guitars soli. Only the cover, which is actually a bit minimalist and will probably not catch a lot the attention, and the short length of the album will be problematic. But except these two points, we have nothing to say here…
If you're not looking for something original, if you're not afraid of rip-off albums, if you like the lasts In Flames and Children Of Bodom, "Idolator" is for you. Some people will say that it's a shame, some others will say that it's great music, it's just a matter of opinion and position in the Metal community (read that old Metalheads will probably dislike it when young ones will love it). Anyway, nobody can deny that Blood Stain Child just tried to copy the European bands but it's a good copy at least and I'm quite sure that Blood Stain Child will find success because if you like this kind of music this is not so bad after all.
