One of the most influential bands in Death Metal, Morbid Angel presented their fourth album back in the good old Death Metal days, one of a kind masterpiece if you may, it has the best leads Azagthoth has ever made, groundbreaking music, incredibly crushing vocals, and lyrics that prove good old Death Metal isn't always about gore, guts, or rotting stuff.

Shapes, All kind of musical shapes wrap this album, along with the most brilliant arrangements and vocal effects, in fact the best ones I've heard coming from Morbid Angel (just hear "Where The Slime Lives"), the first two songs of the album are connected in an spectacular concept that actually prepares you for a really outstanding album.

Domination shows a more experienced and skilled Morbid Angel, the tunes reflect a polished group thinking about what the band and their audience wants to hear. 43 minutes of mastermind music, the album transports the audience from an ultra fast song "Dawn Of The Angry" to an almost melodic one "Hatework", showing once again an incredibly versatile band with broken chains and genius minds. The album conqueror is "Where The Slime Lives" this song is unbelievable, great background atmospheres, awesome riffs and incredible leads, this is the song that people will always remember as one of the best Death Metal songs of all times, seriously!

I don't know which Morbid Angel album I like more, but I am sure Domination is close to be their best work, in fact I think the first four Morbid Angel albums deserve straight 10's, I know too that "Altars Of Madness" has more impact in the metal world than anything else and in theory this album is just a great extension of what the first albums created, so the formula and the judgement goes directly to you.

Best Tracks: "Where The Slime Lives", "Heartwork"

This album is fucking killer. The opening song is insane, and I got my ass severly beaten in the pit when they played it live. There are one or two songs on this album that aren't that great, but pretty much all the other songs on this album is perfect. I especially like how Dave changed his vocal style a bit.

Everything about this album just gets me going. Much better than Covenant in my opinion. Morbid Angel's best!

Damn, I was sure that Domination was the first album without David... Misinformation...

This is my least favorite, I would give this album an 8 at most because IMO dominate, this means war, ears to hear, eyes to see, and dawn of the angry are the only songs I enjoy on this album...the rest just sounds like filler and drags on way too long for me...

I'm surprised to see an almost-10 from Herz, I know a lot of people rate this way below the other (earlier) MA albums.

And I love how you put "Heartwork" at the end

Excellent review...I also agree with the score. This was actually my favorite album of all time for a short period, although I think Covenant has edged out this album as my favorite MA album (but both are in my top 5 or 10 favorite death metal albums). Only thing I disagree with is the best songs...Where the slime lives is probably my least favorite song, although Hatework is definitely excellent. Inquisition has also grown on me over the years and is one of my favorites.

Ive always felt that the slower songs on this album were trying to revive the same glory that 'God of Emptiness' recieved off Covenant. And I felt that quite a few of the songs were bad attempts of just that, However, not all of them sound bad to me,the faster paced songs brought the same atmosphere ( from God of emptiness ) to a much faster and brutal level. And you can see this alot on Domination. So that I give credit to, I also think the production of the album or the change of vocal style was were the things that drew me away from 'where the slime lives'...you know what I mean.

"Hatework" is by far and away the best track on this album. It does very well in conveying an atmosphere of doom and misery. Not sure what happened to the rest of the album...

Best Morbid Angel album?

In my opinion, that would be "Blessed Are The Sick". "Domination" is definitely the most underrated Morbid Angel album though, and I love a lot of the stuff on it. xD
