Finland and old-school thrash metal aren't words you usually see in one sentence referring to each other. Well, sit back and enjoy Fierce's Where the Flames Prey. Fierce are from Helsinki, Finland and Where The Flames Prey is a demo mcd featuring, you guessed it, old-school thrash metal.
Where The Flames Prey is Fierce's second demo. Whereas their first demo (Moshter) was apparently heavily influenced by Finnish speed metal legends Stone and Airdash Where The Flames Prey is absolutely more thrash oriented with way more aggression and heavier songs in the vein of Sacred Reich, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, and Dark Angel, albeit helped by a heavy clear modern production at times reminding me of this year's Killing Peace by Onslaught.

All four songs are characterised by Matti's spitting vocals which are very reminiscent of Onslaught's Sy Keeler and the chugga-chugga type riffing.
This entire release breathes old-school thrash form the nuclear war artwork and lyrics to the structure of the songs and the vocals, drums, guitars, and bass. The only thing not old-school about this release is the aforementioned production which is Andy Sneapishly modern yet totally thrash.
All five tracks on this 20 minute demo are equally good so no stand-out single track. But who gives a flying f**k with this sort of quality.
Thank god, for once not a Euro flowery power metal band, doom metal, or black metal band hailing from the land of a thousand lakes, but finally some good ole' school thrash. Put on your sneakers, your baseball cap and mosh away. The timing of this demo might just be right with the current interest that is gathering for the good old thrash days of yore, just look at the Get Thrashed and Rat Skates: Born In The Basement dvd's, Onslaught's latest album, the re-releases of some classic Laaz Rockit stuff, Destructor's upcoming new album, the 20th anniversary box of Sacred Reich's Ignorance (including a dvd of their 1989 Dynamo Open Air gig) and also re-releases of Toxik's albums Sabbat's first two amongst others.
If you love your thrash old-school style then don't hesitate and order this demo at either http://www.fiercemetal.org or http://www.myspace.com/fiercemetal.

Now if you don't mind I'll go and grab a hanky to wipe away the tears of all those memories of those beautiful thrash years in the eighties. Grab my sneakers, put on my baseball cap and try to form a circle pit of one in my living room and then dive off my desk onto the couch. Hell yeah!
