Gang is an old band from France which is born in 1990. The band is not really well-known but its members are some famous active French Metalheads members of Underground Investigation (a really good French association). "Dead Or Alive" is their sixth album and follows the style of the combo which is a cool old school Heavy Thrash Metal.

"Dead Or Alive" is not a displeasing album. The songs are more or less good but they all have some cool melodies (extremely dark, a bit like with the old albums of Megadeth). We're in front of an "old school" release and it's obvious that the influences of the combo all come from the Thrash Metal masters of the 80's. But it's not pure Thrash and "Dead Or Alive" is more like a mix between Thrash and Heavy Metal (Speed Metal?). It's groovy with some good guitars riffs and soli and with an alternance of high pitched vocals and classic Heavy Metal ones but let's be honest too, it's a bit old and out of date too and only the real nostalgic will like this album without any reticence.

Also the production of "Dead Or Alive" is a bit cheesy (unfortunately). The mixing is really average and sometime it's even a bit hard to hear all the different instruments. Plus, Gang doesn't have a real drummer and it's a beat-box which replaces this musician. It's easy to hear it and not really beautiful? too bad but on the other hand I really think that it could be easy for Gang to find a drummer and I hope that they will think about it as soon as possible.

"Dead Or Alive" is a good album if you like the numerous productions of the 80's. If you're not that much into this kind of music, you will have to pass away because for today in 2007, it sounds a bit old and it's a bit average. It's a mater of taste actually, fans of old school Heavy Metal will like the release, the others will find it boring after some spins.
