Haaa, Manowar… This is simply the perfect word to symbolize the beers, the girls, the swords (and other lethal weapons), the leather, the Metal and of course… the live performances. The last official live album of the American combo was released in 1999, even if the fans got a lot of DVD until today but I think that after a so long break, it was a good idea to release a new live and if you like Manowar, I can tell you that you'll not be disappointed… For sure, you didn't wait for nothing.
A bit of honesty never kills so I will be honest with you, in general, I don't like Manowar. I don't like the band and its attitude (topics of the lyrics, music etc) and I really think that God Of War (the album) is one of their worst album ever. But I'm not blind too and I can recognize a good live album and "Gods Of War Live" is a good live. Of course if you cannot stand the music of the combo, you can be sure that this release will not be a revelation but if you like Manowar then trust me this is a must!
During more than one hour and fifty minutes Joey, Eric, Karl and Scott played the best of the best of the Manowar's songs. From old classics like "Manowar" or "Secret Of Steel" to some more recent but already cult ones like "Warrior Of The World United" and with of course songs of the last album, you can be sure that you'll be able to listen to a majority of your favorite songs of the Manowar's discography. And the good thing here is that even the new songs (which are, I'm sorry to say it again, not good at all on the album) are a lot better because for sure Manowar is a band made for the live performances and this new live album is a leaving proof.
The production of "Gods Of War Live" is really good, it's easy to hear all the instruments and the voice of Eric and I don't even talk about the crowd who sings along with the band during the whole show. Also, the booklet is really good with some nice pictures and when I see the photos of the great beautiful stage (with a big Viking ship!) I can tell you that the ones who have missed the last Manowar's tour will take a big slap in their face when they will be able to buy the upcoming DVD of the combo. No really this double live is professional as hell (that's the trademark of the band anyway) and for sure all the fans of the true warriors of Heavy Metal will be happy to listen to it again and again.
There is a sentence which says that Manowar doesn't play but kill. When I listen to their last album I really don't think that Manowar kill anymore but when it comes to play Metal on stage then they're not simple killers but real serial ones. If "Gods Of War Live" will not be the key which will open the door of the kingdom of Metal to the ones who don't like Manowar for sure it will be the Grail for their fans. A must if you like to wear tiny little leather pants and are not afraid to listen to Metal at the maximal volume!

| Good review jeff. And yes, it is a slap in the face that I didn't have the opportunity to catch this tour. As far as rating goes, I gave it a simple 7/10, the first disc deserved a 9/10 for me, but the second disc was all the stuff from Gods Of War (other than The Crown And The Ring), not even the decent stuff off that album either (Like Sleipnir, Loki God Of Fire, or King Of Kings), and like you said, you dont like the songs in the first place you probably wont like them here, indeed. So it would have been a 5/10 for the second Disc, averaged out = 7/10 |

| This is absolutely INCOMPARABLE to their 2007 album. i'm listening right now to one of the narration tracks: Glory Majesty Unity. while on the studio cd it sounds lame, on this live album it's absurdly EPIC AS FUCK. |
