| The new album is good, it got 7 from me.. The highlight for me are Kirk Hammett's solos (the best one imo in Suicide & Redemption). Favorite songs are My Apocalypse and Suicide & Redemption. I won't comment on production very much. It could have been better for that money and experience of mixers and mastering experts. And now when they try to sound somewhat complex on this album, they should experiment with a bit more progressive sound for next one. |

| I think it's a good album. Most of the songs are really cool and energetic (and I've missed that in Metallica's three previous albums, along with a whole bunch of other things ofc). It's not as good as their highest rated albums, but as for me, they have gained some credibility again when it comes to writing a decent album ... I think a lot of us did wonder whether they we're up to the task of creating another album with their old spirit. I believe it's a success. Especially The Judas Kiss, All Nightmare Long and Suicide & Redemption are killers in my opinion. The album would probably have a higher rating if it wasn't for The Day That Never Comes and The Unforgiven III. But all credit to Metallica. They're still an amazing band! |

| I still love it, but I have to admit that its quite easy to get bored of it. |
| honestly, at first i didnt know what to expect from this new album. i honestly thought it was going to be another Load, Reload, or St. Anger. but when i got it and listened to it. i was very shocked. tis a kickass album. in my opinion i think that almost all the songs are ace. cyanide is the only one i dont really care for. but it still is an alright song. all in all, after the release of this album, i am still proud to call Metallica my favorite band. |
hehe.. the first song is very boring until the beggining of the solos at 5:30 min ''The End of the line'' is better, ''All nightmare long'' is the best song in my opinion.
But I really prefer St. Anger style. when it comes to Metallica, i like the catchy nu-metal riffs and the weird drums But this album has a couple of songs that i can enjoy. |

| Well, not funny. The guy's just a moron. |

| To me it's a bit better or at least equal to Black Album.. Nice job from a band that is lost between their past and their hot hot money... They remebered after many years to work.. |

At first I thought the album was really good but after a while it became even better. I listen to it more now than during its first release days. A very special mix of "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice for All" with a thick layer of Load over it. Okay, I'll be honest. Puppetz and Lightning aren't as obvious as Load and Justice, but I can certainly hear a "Ride the Lightning" solo at one place and "Disposable Heroes" at another.
It sounds like Metallica has held all that early aggression and Thrash inside them for the last 20 years and suddenly they just let it all out. And for the first time ever I actually enjoy Kirk's solos throughout the whole album. Yes, I'm a Metallica fanboy who thinks most Kirk Hammett solos says... nothing.
During the (many) highlights, "Death Magnetic" is IMO the best they've done since '86.
Oh, almost forgot. The album is amazing, but "Suicide & Redemption" must be the most boring shit I've heard from them. |
| Every single song from this albhum is excellent, except by "Suicide and Redemption". |
THE BEST ALBUM SINCE JUSTICE |
| Best album since the first 4. Wonder why it took them almost 20 years to do this, but anyway... Will never live up to the Metallica of old but its not too bad. |

I don't think it's boring at all. The riffs are great. |

| I like The Day That Never Comes, very mellow. |
| Some songs are good....but most are very boring....songs begin good but in middle of them i go tired....metallica cannot write good long songs.....another problem is wick recording...espesially for drums. |

I really enjoyed your review of "Death Magnetic". It seems like a coming back to form since "St. Anger", although i was able to listen through that album.
upon my first listen it was definitely a shock to hear them like this. Thrash. Metallica are a Thrash band, and listening to this brought a huge smile to my face. my only complaints about this album are:
1. typically it takes about 2 min to get to the actual song, the intros are nice but maybe they should of done that on a song or two.
2. the production value. its TOO high. im listening to a playlist at the gym and im listening to Master of Puppets then My Apocalypse comes on, it blows my ears off. so now i have to make sure i lower the volume before a song from Death Magnetic comes on.
but all in all..... 8/10 from me. Welcome Back Metallica |

| Probably one metallica best. Better then the Black album in my opinion. |
| Great album,great comeback!!!Thrash is rising up again!!!!!:banger2: |
| I agree with what Metallica said about this album "Is the best album that we could have done in this moment", forget abour Load, Reload and St Anger, this album has solos, agression, fast riffs, nice drum arrangements and meanning, so, this is, in my opinion, a very good album which makes me admire even more Metallica, is amazing how a band almost 30 years after their first album can create something so good! Long live to them! |

It's not really awesome, but I think it's a great album. A return to form? Yes.
Only Unforgiven III is a bummer, but okay, I like most of the rest of the songs. |

"Death Magnetic"...
Well, I think this album can be summarized shortly:
1. Vocals suck. It's obvious James blew a vocal chord a few years ago, he has no power left in his voice. Boring vocals that sound very weak.
2. Guitar riffs are rather generic, nothing original or impressive.
3. Drums are way too loud in the mix. The bass drum has an annoying clicking sound (some would probably say it was like that on AJFA but it's worse on DM). And Lars sucks on drums, he's too rich to bother for his skills anymore.
4. Production is awful. The album feels as if it was recorded too loud, there's an annoying distortion in the guitars. Drums are too high in the mix and bass drums have a bad sound. The entire mix feels muddy and dull.
By the way, Metallica is an extremely overrated band. Even in their best days during the 80s, there were many metal bands much better than them. If they're so popular today, it's only due to their far away past and even more because they play 'commercial metal' since the black album, which marked the time they sold out.
Still, I believe DM is the best (or at least the less bad) album Metallica released after AJFA.
EDIT: On a more personal note, I hate when drums are high in the mix because it makes it hard to follow guitar riffs and melodies. There's nothing like a freaking loud snare to destroy the feeling of an album, as it disturbs you all the time and prevents you to follow the flow of a song. I like drums fast and low in the mix, not slow and ultra 'weighty'. |

¡¡¡Metallica = SHIT!!!
I can understand someone not liking this album but calling Metallica the most stupid band of all times coming from someone who is a Soulfly and Sepultura (and also newer Sepulatura fan) is totally ridiculous.
Remember that without Metallcia a totally crapy and overrated band such as Soulfly would never have existed. |

Seriously, how many songs can you write about how "awesome" you are? They bring new meaning to the phrase "epic fail."
Whether people care for Metallica's music or not, it is a FACT that they influenced the metal world immensely. And unlike manowar, they at least try to have messages behind their songs. Manowar's "we kick-ass and if you disagree you ain't true metal" doesn't count. |

Undeniable.
Concerning Manowar and their 'trueness', I find it so contradictory that they constantly brag about how true they are, while they play the most commercial 'metal' you can find. Talk about poserism.
There's no other band out there I hate as much as Manowar and no other band is as pathetic as them with their cockiness, only because they're a famous gay cheesemetal band.
At least Spinal Tap don't take themselves seriously. |

Good review!
Anyways initially I thought this album sucked, but after a while it started to grow on me and I can surely say this is a great comeback from the thrash masters!!
My favourite track is "All Nightmare Long"...it grew on me faster than the other songs... |

| This album kicks ass and i think the highlight is that was just your life |

This is my favourite Metallica album of all times. I didn't really like Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets. Those 2 albums are overrated "...And Justice For All" and "Metallica) were their best work imo.
As for Death Magnetic, I really like the new songs. The guitars are much more heavier, James' voice is at his best imo, and the riffs are very nice (sometimes repetitive but they sound so good!). And the solos, which are the best part of this album, are sick and awesome even though they are not any hard to play.
Favourite songs: Broken, Beat & Scarred, All Nightmare Long, The Day That Never Comes |

| Agree with the rating of 8 for the album. Songs like ''The Judas Kiss'' are spoiled by having too many riffs that don't gel well together. It sounds like a lot of random riffs thrown in for their own sake. Which is a shame, as a lot of the actual riffs themselves are awesome. The production isnt great, even though the producer of this one managed to do an even worse job with Slayer's latest. When the songs do work, like the awesome opener ''That Was Just Your Life", "My Apocalypse", and the great ballad "The Unforgiven III", I feel like Metallica are still capable of writing amazing songs. Overall, I really like the album. If it werent for the production, bad arrangements in some songs, and the instrumental being overly long, I would put this amongst the other Metallica classics. As it is, it is a very good album, but held back from classic status because of a few niggling flaws. Great comeback though! |

Rick Rubin didn't produce World Painted Blood It was produced by Greg Fidelman who happened to be the engineer for Death Magnetic with Rubin producing that one.
I for one prefer World Painted's Blood's production to this wway too loud clipped one. |

Ahhhh...oops! Feel free to call me a clutz. I completely forgot Greg Fidelman only engineered Death Magnetic....*hides* Probably because he has always been the main one singled out for ruining that album's sound, not Rick Rubin.
Hmm...World Painted Blood sounds terribly compressed. Both albums are not well produced, but I prefer the sound of Death Magnetic slightly more. That said, I do love a lot of the songs on World Painted Blood. Some great songs come through the crap production. I think both albums are very good, music wise. But they should definitely have been produced better! |

I preferred certain songs on the album. Others I didn't. 'The Day That Never Comes' being pretty damn close to the best thing i've heard since AJFO. I agree that it's good they didn't totally rip off their oldest material and gave it new ideas, which is cool to hear in Death Magnetic. The drums are way too loud though and I feel like they still had a high amount of volume to turn down (even though they aren't as loud as on St. Anger).
Guess I could also say it's not as memorable as the old music? i'm not one of these people who bum their previous legacy, but maybe they can do a better job with some future releases in terms of the creativity.
We'll see |
