When you're a reviewer you sometimes find yourself stumbling across some very weird yet interesting material. And, oh boy, this one is so insanely intriguing I didn't hit the jackpot, I think that jackpot just hit me. Yes, I'm talking about that kind of disturbing.

Now, to be honest, it took me an awful long time to complete the writing of this particular review. The reason is quite simple: Drug Honkey isn't just another average everyday metal band, no sir, this band is seriously messed up. And believe me, "Death Dub" isn't exactly an album you can easily put your finger on? except? except of course if you would cut off your finger, and? and actually put it on the record? that? that'd be spot on of course? I guess? but on the other hand? seriously, that wouldn't make any sense? unless? unless of course you also cut off that other hand? but that wouldn't make any sense either? you know? as it'd be total harebrained absurdity? but then again? I mean? come on? we're still talking about Drug Honkey here? and Drug Honkey are badass, mkay.

The one and only reason why people should even get it in their heads to listen to this album, is to experience the brilliance of the complete incoherence of it. Forget about the horror? the horror; here comes the incoherence? the incoherence. Mark my words, Drug Honkey are completely out of this world, in many, many ways it seems. And when you're planning to listen to "Death Dub", soon you'll be too - so I hope you have a pizza courier or another junk food deliverer listed under your speed dial button, you might be needing it. So, as I was saying, this is a real piece of brutal dirty magic: the record sounds really different every single time you hear it, no matter what condition you're in (and I know what I'm talking about). And that's bluntly brilliant if you come to think of it. On top of that, Drug Honkey's incoherence is also straight out appealing and addictive, like a juicy diabolical cocktail, a deadly psychedelic mix of death-influenced sludge, stoner doom and a lot of noise and vile distorted madness.

Truth is, when you look at it, everybody will have to agree that this band and album are just utterly fucked up. While some may find this a horrifying bad album, others will thoroughly enjoy this thing (under whatever influence they might be) like an adrenaline shot Pulp Fiction-wise straight to the heart, while some others will even talk about a filthy work of art. Either way, Drug Honkey's "Death Dub" might be the school example of a trip-inducing stimulus in a drug-free situation. Follow this plan and very soon you'll say, Drug Honkey are badass, mkay.


EDITOR'S NOTE: usually, I don't rate a lot of albums higher than a 9, but I found this one to be really something. I mean, you have to try it to know what I'm talking about. Take a fucking risk once in a while. But don't count on an edifying spectacle with demonstrations of super technical musicianship; it's the experience, the atmosphere, the emotion that really counts on this one.
