While I'm not a fan of metalcore, or really even hardcore (though some is alright), I've found I don't mind the mixed genre "deathcore" quite as much. The vocals aren't quite as "screamish" or sometimes it doesn't matter as much with the heavier Death Metal influence. Art Like Destruction, the five piece band from Halmstad, Sweden are a deathcore band but they also blend Melodic Death Metal. From the sweet melodic intro to the first track, the title track "She's Dead By Dawn" they sound like they play like some of the more beautiful material In Flames has come out with in their Gothenburg/Melodeath ways. Until the tortured screams appear that is. As nice as the intro is, it perhaps doesn't prepare the listener for what's about to come though?

Art Like Destruction, for the rest of the "She's Dead By Dawn" demo are a lot more energetic. The drumming is pretty fast, with Laszlo Juhos' skill allowing him to blast away with his hands and feet at will whenever a slower part of a song should cease. The vocals are sometimes growled, sometimes screamed and everywhere in between but always spat forth with ferociousness. As soon as you've started getting into the songs on offer and appreciating the ones you like, etc though the demo comes to what unfortunately feels like an abrupt end. Then you check and realise that it only just tops the 10 minute mark. So regrettably She's Dead By Dawn has to be treated more as a sampler than anything else. Hopefully though Art Like Destruction will come out with a full length one of these days and She's Dead By Dawn really can act as a try-before-you-buy kind of release as I don't find what I hear here to be too bad.

I think Art Like Destruction would be a pretty nice live band too as they seem to have a lot of energy that could be channelled into a good live show. They remind me in ways of a couple of grindcore bands I've enjoyed live before. She's Dead By Dawn though is free, so get it if you like this kind of music simply because it won't cost you anything. Just remember though that you don't get much for free and you won't here either until Art Like Destruction writes some new material! Also see if you can spot the "40 Year Old Virgin" sample.
