Have you ever been curious about what a perfect balance between punk and metal would sound like? Well if you have, Toxic Holocaust's latest release "An Overdose Of Death..." is definitely your answer.

People have described Toxic Holocaust's music as being "blackened thrash", which in fact is a misleading title for those who haven't heard the band. For a more in-depth idea of what this album consists of, imagine black metal vocals (though slightly less shrill and distorted than most, partially due to production), thrash metal riffage with a heavy dose of hardcore punk rhythmic patterns and production. The lyrical content is pretty much cheesy war/sci-fi subject matter, almost Misfits-esque. The tongue-in-cheek imagery mixed with the punky grooves makes this an extremely fun album. While the different aspects of this album are not all that original in themselves, the combination is definitely a nice breath of fresh air for fans of extreme metal.

The solo member Joel Grind has managed to come up with some of the catchiest riffs & hooks imaginable, which ironically turns out to be the most notable downfall of this album. In each song there seems to be one solid riff found and repeated throughout the track - "repetition" is a word that comes to mind while trying to describe this album, something that can be tedious at times for even the most simple minded of metal fans. The tracks that avoid this tendency seem to be the ones that stand-out the most.

To sum it up, if you like your metal progressive then this album will probably be extremely annoying at best, but if you (like myself) just need a solid riff and some fury behind it, then you'll surely dig this ferocious little album.

Highlights: 'Wild Dogs', 'Future Shock', and 'The Lord Of The Wasteland'

Agree with the review. Except for the fact that Joel Grind isn't the sole member on this album. All drums were played by Donny Paycheck. So finally no drum computer.

I guess it all comes down to titles, I wouldn't exactly consider session musicians actual members.

I listened to it once a few days ago, and was bored to be frank... no "fun" at all.

A very entertaining album, nothing extremely complicated, just great riffs and vocals, 30 minutes of pure "in your face" metal. Great review.

I bought this the other day, and I wasn't disappointed!

I love it! If the new album is as good as that one, it would be The Аlbum of the year to me!
