Shores Of Sheol, Austria's one and only "Greek" Black metal band (to my knowledge). And one of the very, very few bands that blew me away with a demo in recent years. "Forlorn Realms", said demo, saw the light of day in 2007 and finally it has a follow-up! "Eternal Sin – The Great Conquest" marks the eighth release of the band and it is once again a step up in both song writing and portrayed skill.

The EP is a gathering of frenzied melodic riffing, hellish growls and chanting choirs. Of course the riffs are still very reminiscent of the Greek Black metal scene, but they are played with a fiery passion and are often just damn awesome. This time they also have more Thrash worked into them, creating an intense atmosphere. While the riffs rage along the malicious Demon King spews his hatred, resulting in a cataclysmic apocalypse that will set every Black metal heart in flames.

I'm a little disappointed with the production, though. It is a step up in quality from the last demo, which is good, but it doesn't possess that scorching sound to it. This time the sound is better balanced though, and I suspect that the majority will see this production-change as an improvement, so I'll shut up about it. Besides, there are still a couple of moments of full fire-frenzy. Hell yeah.

In the end, every new Shores Of Sheol release has me craving for a new release after approximately five seconds. With every new offering he makes progress and I'm very curious as to what Sathur will release next. If you are a newcomer to the band, this is your chance to jump aboard. If you've been a long-time follower, be sure to check this one out as well as you will surely love it. "Eternal Sin – The Great Conquest" is the first official physical release, so grab it while you can.
