01. The End Of History
02. Liquid love
03. Zaratoustra, Zaratoustra
04. Preludio #1

First off, a warning: I don't rate demos anymore, so make your own mind!

Undefined is a young new band hailing from Brazil (just to be sure, let's say they're no Sepultura clone).
This, their first demo, features four tracks for a bit less than 15 minutes. They play a lot of different stuff in here, but the main roots are in hardcore and metal (and a bit in classical music too).

The quality of the songs is pretty irregular. The End Of History is really a good song. It starts quite mellow, before the hardcore vocals and rythmics kick in. But next, comes Liquid Love. Ouch, this hurts! This song is horrible, it sounds like a very bad Offspring-stuff cheesy ballad. At least it's short! Seriously, it reminded me of some parodic stuff by Crotchduster... except that it sounds serious here. Zaratoustra, Zaratoustra starts with double bass (the string one, not drumming) before the aggression starts; it's quite interesting but the vocals are not really good. And the final instrumental, Preludio #1 (??) is a nice acoustic piece.

So, what to think of it? It's really varied, and seems it was done just to showcase the musicians abilities, which are quite good actually. However, Undefined - as a band - will have to forge an identity, because I think it's too varied for its own good, aiming at all directions at once.
The other problem lies with the vocals, the high-pitched ones varying from unbearable to boring. The lower-pitched ones are, however, quite nice and well used.

But, globally, I liked this stuff. It smells like the first demo ever from these guys, as it's so full of youthful exuberance and energy... It is refreshing just because of it.
So, I'll gladly wait to see what they will do in a few years, with more experience... Certainly some good stuff!

Note: All the songs (except Preludio #1) are featured on their myspace.

Does the cover of this album seem strikingly very similar to the album by Hacride which was reviewed on this site just before that one?

A bit similar, yes, but they're not the same. I don't know, maybe they were done by the same artist?
