If you like Killers and French Thrash/Heavy Metal, you absolutely must have a look at "Soleil Rouge", DemonTool's last effort. This release features all what you need if you like this kind of mix between old school French Heavy Metal and Thrash. Good riffs, thrashy melodies aggressive lyrics, yes you'll receive a good slap in your face, if you're not allergic to this really particular and special music. The fans shouldn't be disappointed; the other ones will maybe discover something? That's up to you!

If you use to read my reviews, you've probably already seen that I usually hate French vocals when it comes to Heavy Metal. Here, no problem anyway because it fits to the music and to its energy. The vocals are harsh and the lyrics are aggressive, ok they're a bit simple and cliché too but it gives a violent side to the music and it's cool actually. Also the riffs are really melodic and complex a bit like Slayer for example. The music is dark but the riffs provoke headbang if you see what I mean, "Soleil Rouge" is really old school on a side but the guys know how to do catchy music and interesting Metal all in all.

Without being amazing, the production of the record is more than correct. The recording and mixing is honest and even if the cover and booklet are simple, it's ok for the album. With good guys, good songs, "Soleil Rouge" can be considerate as a good album. The only thing is that you must be a fan of the genre to enjoy it because if you're not it won't change your feelings but if you like Killers or ADX, no doubt you'll like DemonTool!

Old school spirit and good thrashy riffs are featured in "Soleil Rouge". It's a matter of taste but if you're a nostalgic of 80's Heavy/Thrash French bands, I recommend you this release. Check it, it won't hurt anyway, and in the genre it's worth the price!
