BLOOD FIRE DEATH!. That's what the short description featured on The Serpents Lust promo-package screamed at me when I first saw it. And well, in terms of descriptiveness it's a lot better than most 'musically genius, cult, profound and highly original' yet somehow completely generic bands that a lot of labels slap in my face on a weekly basis. Props for Hell's Headbangers Records, the label in question, on this one.

Enough ball sack licking now, let's get down to bizznizz. Hunters Moon, the band in question today, and their debut EP The Serpents Lust. So um, yeah, "Blood Fire Death" is still the best description I could possibly give of the music. Obviously Quorthon is not part of this project but his soul runs through the EP from start to finish. It's a little less catchy, perhaps, and there is no song of the level as 'A Fine Day To Die' or 'For All Those Who Died', but their black fiery hearts are in the right place. The Serpents Lust is a basically a bucketful of galloping rhythms, frenzied solos and raging harsh vocals. What more could you ask for?

Whether or not you regard the strong presence of BFD-era Bathory as a strength is completely up to you. In my opinion, the album's short length does it much good. Each individual track is strong, the album in general is very consistent, the music is great. A very enjoyable and worthwhile release overall.
