Band: Kuadrumana
Album: The Gamodeme
Release date: 2006

01. Frozen
02. Disaster Suffer

Kuadrumana are a five-piece band hailing from Iran. Formed in 2005, they play some (relatively) classical thrash with a few hardcore touches thrown in.

In 2006, they started to record some songs for The Gamodeme. This was supposed to be a whole, complete album, but due to the oppressive policies holding sway in Iran, the band was able to only record two songs, "Frozen" and "Disaster Suffer", now available on their myspace.

And so, the music? As it was mentioned, thrash is the main course here, nothing really fast, but quite heavy; it did remind me of modern thrash bands like Lamb Of God or Dagoba, so yes, there are also some hardcore breakdowns. The guitar work is pretty cool, the solos are both technical and melodic, and the riffs are relatively catchy. The song "Disaster Suffer" is more melodic that "Frozen", and that's just fine. Once again I will complain a bit about the clean vocals (in this case half-spoken, half-sung clean vocals) which are not the area of expertise of Ahmad Motamed the vocalist; his raspy aggressive ones are indeed better.

One might sometimes have the feeling that some of the aggression, anger and rage in nowadays metal is contrived. Well that's clearly not the case here! Playing metal in their home country is an ordeal by itself, and it sure does fuel the rage that, in turn, fuels the music. And while not original, Kuadrumana is genuinely quite good. I do think they have potential, let's hope they'll have the opportunity to continue playing and to evolve... Anyhow, they'll have to be able to get out of Iran to play and record freely, first...
