Dark Illusion came into being all the way back in 1982. At that time they put the band to rest before releasing anything. In 2003, roughly 20 years later they decided to get back together and now in 2010 (well, actually late 2009) they present their second full-length to us. That's it for the history lesson folks, let's move on to the music!

Where Eagles Fly is one of those albums where nothing's really wrong, but there's nothing to pee your pants about either. One of those albums that make genre-fans happy boys and give those who don't like the style something to grump about. In short, this is a good, but not outstanding, record within its genre-boundaries, but it doesn't offer anything new.

Basically Dark Illusion sound like the traditional power metal, older brother of HammerFall with a splash of Helloween. The instrumentation and the vocals are pretty good, same for the vocals, delivered by Thomas Vikström (ex-Candlemass/Stormwind). The production would probably be better if the guitars were a bit louder in the mix, but it's ok as it is.

All the elements are present. Good musicianship, the songs are catchy, the production is fine and the whole CD has a genuine oldschool vibe do it. If you're looking for anything new, special or original, you're looking in the wrong place though. This is a good album for the fans of the style, if you're one of them do check them out, you won't be disappointed, it's not meant for anyone else though.
