Three years after the release of their first album (which was already reviewed on Metal Storm), Dreamlost is back with their new effort, Psychomedia . And the less that I can say is that the band, without doing lots of big waves, is improving and already confirms that they should be considered. They know how to do good prog metal now people will just have to know that Dreamlost is a good promising French band!

Once again, Psychomedia is a dark progressive metal release. Clearly inspired by Quensrÿche and even Evergrey, this release feature all the good things that you want to listen to when you listen to prog. Good complex and deep melodies, nice and intelligent keyboards, great guitar solos and of course, long songs which all get in power from the beginning to the end. What I like the most remains the melodies, all leaded by the keyboards which are not just there to be there. I say it again but if you're into European prog a la Beyond Twilight but with influences coming from USA and Quensrÿche, it should be for you. Psychomedia maybe lack a bit of personality, after all the guys don't invent anything new here, but this is really well done and clearly not trendy or easy of too "pop".

If the cover artwork is a bit average the production remains solid. The sound is really well recorded and despite the little French accent of the singer, the whole interpretation of the songs is well done and really pro. Dreamlost is maybe not extremely famous yet but the band has the potential to "do it"! Of course sometime the music maybe lack a bit of originality but all in all Psychomedia is a good release which is even better than their previous one. Dreamlost is not magic yet but we can be proud to have such bands in the country.

Psychomedia confirms my hopes. Outer Reallity was a good first strike, the new album just confirms that Dreamlost is a really good combo made in France. Let's see what will happen in the future and if they will find a way to play a lot live and then find real fans but if they follow this way, I can promise really good thing to them. Dreamlost is recommended to all the prog metal fans, it should be a nice discovery!
