Fractured Insanity - Mass Awakeless 1 August 2010
01. Echoes From Despair And Damnation 02. Mass Awakeless 03. The Damned 04. Infecting The Blind 05. Insanity's Haze 06. Breed Of Nothingless 07. Faceless Redemption 08. Catalysmic Disruption 09. The Rise Of The Nameless Aeon 10. Towards Nihility And Annihilation
Brutal and technical death metal bands are truly a dime a dozen these days. We literally get dozens of them sent in to us for review every year and most of them are complete wastes of time and plastic. They are either too brutal to be memorable or too forcedly melodic to be impressive. Most are just derivative though, with the majority simply sounding exactly the same. It is therefore rare that an album from this genre can truly be recommended and Mass Awakeless by Fractured Insanity is one of these albums.
Fractured Insanity can be compared to two kinds of bands. At first, they might remind you of Fleshgod Apocalypse since both bands favor extremely fast tempos, feature gruff, low-register vocals and contain some sparse classical influences. At the same time, Fractured Insanity also have a technical side to their music, often recalling the likes of Decrepit Birth or Gorod. Without a doubt, Fractured Insanity emerges as one of the most interesting bands around in both comparisons since their music is just catchier, more dynamic and more memorable than that of most. Although drummer Ignace can evidently blast with the best of them, meaningful songwriting seems to be the key on Mass Awakeless. As a result of this, this band's death metal comes across as somewhat classy and respectful of old-school values, much like that of bands that previously used Herz Studio in Poland (Krisiun, Decapitated, Vader etc.) Fractured Insanity definitely hit some sort of sweet spot with most songs, with "Infecting The Blind" being the definite highlight of the whole album and the one song that everyone even remotely interested in this kind of music should check out. Go to the band's Myspace page and listen to it. The rest of the songs are not much worse either, so you will enjoy the whole album.
So there you have it, Mass Awakeless is definitely an album worth checking out and a recommended listen for brutal and technical death metal fans from me. This is just Fractured Insanity's second album and already they are displaying a very high level of talent. Time to get on some good tours and earn some cred. After that, the sky's the limit.

With Metal Storm since 2002, jupitreas has been subjecting the masses to his reviews for quite a while now. Privately not actually an asshole, he lives in Warsaw, Poland, where he runs his small graphic and web design business.

Thanks for the heads-up Im going through one gigantic Gorod phase so this should do well. Sounds good from the 2 songs I heard, the vocals eat your brains though, its a bit overbearing for my taste but Im sure I will get used to it |

| The first thing I do when I get my internet connection back next week is download this and give it a listen. If Steve's got a copy at Comatose I'll probably end up ordering a copy. |
