Moving on; here's my take on what I believe to be the finest in cyber metal (or electro-based metal in general). A few unconventional choices thrown out there for an overall well-rounded feel. Not all of them are cyber metal, of course, but those albums in question have certain qualities which appeal to the genre, and thus cannot be overlooked.
As of now, I haven't bothered to list them according to favouritism. The format thus far is limited to one band-one album. Most likely that I'll expand my list in the future, when I come across more deserving candidates.
Random in order, and subject to change, as I see fit.

Neurotech is the first album even close to this style I've ever heard, and I fucking love it. This list will help me greatly.

Thank ye Strade, I appreciate you taking some time to check this list (and the genre) out. More to be added soon, hopefully.

Now why am I not surprised? I can only expect wing-flapping goodness from your recommendations. Goes without saying that I will check them out asap. Cheers, mate.

The Monolith Deathcult are probably my favorite band to include electronics in their metal
tea[m]ster - 28.02.2012 at 01:16
I've got a really obscure release. Not even sure if the band is around anymore. It's electronica/alternative and a really good album:

Artifact - Only Salvation
Brave Sir Robbo - 28.02.2012 at 01:44
There is a fair bit of electro stuff in melodeath which I enjoy - check out Blood Stain Child, Silent Descent, Timecry, Mygrain for examples

Also We Butter the Bread With Butter for pure comedy !

First time I heard Trivmvirate I thought I put on the wrong album because I had also put Suicide Commando on my MP3 player that day. After a while the guitars kicked in. Trivmvirate has become an all-time favorite since.

More recommendations, some of them being closer to actual industrial metal, but whatevs:
Xe-NONE (nothing I'd recommend to a friend, but you asked for it)
Semargl (same here)
Nyne
Tristwood
The Count Nosferatu Kommando
...and Oceans
Die Krupps
KMFDM (and Juke Joint Jezebel is awesome as well!)
Nine Inch Nails
Hanzel & Gretyl
Oomph! (does that cover look familiar?)
Enter Shikari

And of course there's still all the guitar-driven darkwave/goth stuff, for example:
Project Pitchfork
Zeromancer
ASP
... and more I can't think of right now. All the other stuff that comes to mind right now is (cyber)goth stuff without guitars, like Combichrist, Grendel, the aforementioned Suicide Commando, Agonoize and Beati Mortui.
Ag Fox - 23.06.2012 at 10:57
I second Monolith Deathcult's TrivmVirate and Tristwood.
MechanisT - 23.06.2012 at 11:50
Don't really feel Trivmvirate, although a mighty boss album, "suits the theme", if you will. I'd prefer cyber (cliche term, but still) metal recs over here so...
Promonex - 28.06.2012 at 04:04
Stuff like Scar Symmetry, you mean?

And Paul Wardingham. Thing is, imagery is important to me as well. "Futuristic themes" are what made these kind of bands land over here.
Druss - 01.07.2012 at 02:14
Thumbs up, cyber metal is a genre I've been meaning to be trying to get into to, glad to see Tyrant Of Death's Alice's Heroin Wonderland here.
psykometal - 09.07.2012 at 01:20
Well damn, I came to this list expecting more bands like Illidiance but the only ones remotely similar are Seecrees, Mnemic, Neurotech and Sybreed; Deathstars kinda sorta but they're still a bit more industrial/gothic than "cyber" imo. Most everything else is recent Dark Tranquillity style Melodeath with "techno-ish" keyboard moments strewn about for "atmosphere". Should probably put the genres (in parentheses) on the side so others coming here can see which of these bands actually fall inside the realm of "cyber metal".

Another band I can think of to add would be a group that has been around for over a decade that I would happily go back and call "cyber metal" had I thought of that term a decade ago...Crossbreed. And the most recent (or maybe even last 2) The Kovenant albums (who are another band that started out as melodic/symphonic BM but shifted to electronic-based metal); in fact there are several sounds that Illidiance used on Damage Theory that are very reminiscent of The Kovenant's S.E.T.I. album.

Oh I forgot about Seth.ECT...

I've come to realize that cyber metal er whatever you want to call it is the annoying metal genre.....it's so easy to mess up. Mostly, I think, due to the fact that it doesnt have any distict riff stucture....you just take any metal and throw some electronic samples on top and there you have it.

Same can be said about gothic to some extent.
I do agree that good cyber bands are extremely rare and all, but it doesn't mean it's "annoying". Originality and quality don't necessarily have to go hand in hand.

I can definitely see where you're coming from man. I won't dispute the fact that this genre is plagued with bands that play annoying-sounding metal and come across very gimmicky, but I wouldn't like to generalize the whole genre. The ones that are good (a rarity, but heck) are really awesome.
