#1 for sure. I don't think I could ever find a goth metal album I will praise and adore as much as Beyond The Veil. Pure perfection.

Hmm... this is top 9 as I see.

Oh, I never noticed. I will get another one up there.

Well, I thumbed up this list a while ago, since it's the best gothic list I've seen on this site BUT I have a few "complaints" as well as suggestions.

First of all, I don't think Cradle Of Filth belongs in this list, but that's just me. Same goes for the albums of My Dying Bride that are in this list (especially Turn Loose The Swans, which is death/doom and not really gothic). The "gothic" albums of MDB are: The Angel and the Dark River (brilliant album), Like Gods of the Sun (awesome album and probably the most "gothic" album they ever released) and For Lies I Sire (their worst album by far and the only one that I don't like, so don't put it in this list! ).

Now that we got the complaints out of the way, here are a few suggestions:
- Evereve - Seasons
- Evereve - Stormbirds
- The Gathering - Mandylion
- The Gathering - Nighttime Birds

These are the only suggestions I can give you because your list is already full with great albums that I know. All four albums are atmospheric gothic metal and amazing to say the least. Definitely give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Hi, and thanks for the suggestions. I kinda disagree with you with CoF not being a gothic band as they haven't really been anything else since other than their black metal demos and debut album. Their other/more recent albums could be classified 'extreme gothic/symphonic' band with a slight influence in black metal. Sorry, but I'm keeping them.
MDB is most definitely a death/doom band. I do hear alot of gothic elements in their music and alot more than most bands claiming to be gothic. You have your opinion and I have mine.

Now your suggestions:
I have heard of Evereve, and I might consider adding them. So thanks
The Gathering... maybe not. Both Mandylion and Nighttime Birds don't feel very gothic to me. Highly atmospheric as they are, but not so gothic.

Ah, I always felt CoF to be more black than gothic... but since I don't care for them anymore, I'm not sure and you could be right after all. It's your list after all, and those are probably CoF's best albums anyway!

About MDB... to me they've always seemed death/doom with gothic elements, aside from the few albums I mentioned, which are more gothic/doom for sure. If you listened to all of MDB's albums (which I have ) you'll know Like Gods of the Sun is easily their most gothic album to date, followed up by The Angel and the Dark River. Personally I think those two belong in this list way more than Turn Loose the Swans and The Dreadful Hours (both brilliant death/doom albums in my opinion), but again: it's your list!

I think you'll like Evereve a lot, judging by your musical taste. Their first two albums are all I've heard by them, but those two seem to be the best ones by a long shot. Like Mandylion (Nighttime Birds not so much, though it's still a great album), I think both are great candidates for this list!

Nice to see you put Evereve - Stormsbirds on it. It's definitely good enough for this list!

Good list, I saw many of my favourites there (Tristania, Estatic Fear, Sirenia). I have a few suggestions too:

Autumn - Summer's End
Autumn - My New Time (gothic rock/metal)
Beseech - Black Emotions
Flowing Tears - Thy Kingdom Gone
Madder Mortem - Desiderata (with jazz influences, quite dissonant)
Madder Mortem - Eight Ways
Nemesea - Mana (very similar to After Forever)
Stream Of Passion - Embrace The Storm (Arjen Lucassen's project, symphonic/progressive, but i hear some gothic elements too)
Todesbonden - Sleep Now, Quiet Forest (atmospheric doom/gothic)

if you already knew these, just disregard my comment

Thanks for the suggestions. I have listened to most of these albums so I will think before adding.
Todesbonden is definitely gothic, so I will look into that one.
Stream of Passion, I will say no, but thanks for suggesting it.
Nemesea and Autumn, both have gothic elements, but I have doubts with them as I didn't like much of their music.
Flowing Tears and Madder Morten, interest me the most, so I will check out their albums before adding.

Still an awesome list and probably your best one if you ask me (along with the atmopheric list ). I know we've been over this, but having those two My Dying Bride albums (both being clearly mainly death doom metal) on here seriously doesn't make sense. Again I would suggest having The Angel and the Dark River and Like Gods of the Sun as MDB albums on this list instead of those.

I checked my own gothic list (mainly gothic, anyway) and it seems you covered pretty much every essential gothic metal album. However, I would suggest Lycanthia - Oligarchy and To Cast a Shadow - In Memory Of (strangely enough I liked this one a lot, while I didn't really like the debut ). Oh, also After Forever - Decipher is arguably better than Prison of Desire (even though Black Tomb is my favourite AF song).

Yes Yes Yes, MDB are mainly death/doom but also lots of gothic in them too. I think I did say that to you before
Thanks for the suggestions of Lycanthia and To Cast a Shadow I'll check them out soon.
I already have Decipher in the symphonic list, I feel their Prison of Desire is more gothic while Decipher is more symphonic.
