I am making a list for 2011. Like every one else. Originality is overrated anyway.
This is the very top of the year and still a work in progress.

Wolves In The Throne Room - Celestial Lineage Black/Shoegaze (Blackgaze is an horrible name for a genre BTW). This one puts my ass on the floor with every listen. Great music, great atmosphere, great everything. |
2.
Beyond Creation - The Aura Technical Death. Excellent album where Mr Lapointe abuses my bass fetish. It's Cosmogenesis all over again, maybe even better. |
3.
Benighted - Asylum Cave Brutal Death. Four words. BETWEEN MY BROKEN TEEEEEEEHEEEEEEHEEEEETH. My favorite song of the year on an awesome album. |
4.
Fleshgod Apocalypse - Agony Symphonic Extreme. Not the successor to Oracles and Mafia that I expected but very good in its own right. I cannot for them to do better (because they will... or I'll riot) |
5.
Obscura - Omnivium Progressive Technical Death. Feels like a natural evolution from where they left us with Cosmogenesis. I wonder where they will go from here. |
6.
Ouroboros - Glorification Of A Myth Technical Death/Thrash. *bangs head with very serious look on its face* |
7.
Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg Electro-dark-pop-folk-whothefuckcares-metal. I want to go out in the streets at night and dance with people to that music. A unique blend of sound. |
8.
Esoteric - Paragon Of Dissonance Funeral Doom. Less directly enjoyable than The Maniacal Vale… Okay, scratch that, you should not compare it to the Maniacal Vale. This is great music. |
9.
Mitochondrion - Parasignosis Slightly Blackened Brutal Death. Crushing. Period. |
10.
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction Heavy Devin. The album that never lets you know where it's going to take you next. Plus the lyrics are strangely touching. |
11.
Gigan - Quasi-Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes Technical Death/Grindcore. The Earth crust has broken releasing toxic fumes. Lovecraftian entities have invaded our world. My skin has turned grey and I'm breathing through gills. And yet I've never felt better. |
12.
Noisear - Subvert The Dominant Paradigm Grindcore/Noise. Rapes your ears (in a good way) and then sends you to space. My favorite grincore release of the year. |
13.
Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues Progressive Metalcore. I just love it. |
14.
Leprous - Bilateral Progressive. Crazy songs with lots of energy. |
15.
Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason Atmospheric Black. This one will swallow you and digest you into a desperate, happy ice cube. I don't know if that makes sense. |
16.
Metallica - Kill 'Em All Not a 2011 release. But if Lulu taught us anything, it's that we should remember how awesome Kill 'Em All is. |
17.
Skeletonwitch - Forever Abomination Blackened Thrash. I did not find any "straight thrash" release that excited me this year. However, this one makes me want to break stuff with a smile on my face. |
18.
Taake - Noregs Vaapen Black. Too good to be just "solid", not enough to be awesome but deserves a place here for the f***ing banjo solo \m/ |
19.
Appearance Of Nothing - All Gods Are Gone Progressive Power. Has the merit of being one of the few "proggy" albums I liked. Is corny but feels manly. |
20.
Alestorm - Back Through Time Folk Power. OK, this is not on the same level as the other. But this was my first Alestorm album. I mean, how did I live ignoring the existence of Pirate Metal before. With a song about rum (the greatest drink in the world). |
