Thumbs up: +6
Hey and welcome to my top albums of 2012! All these albums I think are absolutely awesome and definitely deserve to be on this list one way or another. This list may also change if i hear a better album which I think should be on this list. I know possibly a lot of the ratings don't match the other ratings I may have given it so I'm definitely trying to stomp out being too generous!

1. Anaal Nathrakh - Vanitas
2. Ørkenkjøtt - Ønskediktet
9.4 (Progressive Black Metal) -- A short summary like this can't describe how amazing this album really is... and this is only their Debut. A perfect blend of Prog-rock, harsh vocals, humming bass-lines and probably one of my favourite albums. Ever. If these guys never make it big, then there is really something wrong in this world if they don't.
3. Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Inhumanity
9.2 (Brutal Death Metal/Goregrind) -- Fantastic album that surpases their earlier effort 'The Havest Floor' by absolute miles. Contains top notch instrumentation, vocals and I think that it's on par with Suffocation's early masterpieces! Favourite Track: 'Kingdom of Tyrants'
4. Neurotech - Decipher Vol. 1
9.1 (Cyber Metal) -- Another dose of Cyber/Industrial music crafted by Wulf. A catchy and atmospheric EP with Vol.2 coming out in the summer. Really nice piano-driven melodies and growls featured as he has to be one of the best most productive one-man bands around. Favourite Track: 'Home'
5. Wodensthrone - Curse
8.9 (Atmospheric/Pagan Black Metal) -- Here Wodensthrone are shaping up to be one of the forerunners of the UKBM scene and deliver an epic, dark and catchy blast of Black Metal, and beats 'Loss' by a mile. Favourite Track: 'The Storm'
6. Borknagar - Urd
7. Tyrant Of Death - Re Connect
8.9 (Extreme Cyber/Industrial Metal)
8. Accept - Stalingrad
8.8 (Heavy Metal) -- A very melodic, catchy album with great tracks and very likeable vocals. First album I have listened by Accept surprisingly but definately not going to be my last. Favourite Track: "Stalingrad"
9. Aborted - Global Flatline
8.8 (Brutal Death Metal) -- Surely one of their best efforts, with perfectly executed breakdowns and great guest vocals from 'Benighted'. Favourite Track: 'Origin of Disease'
10. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Piñata
8.7 (Symphonic Avant-garde Metal) -- D:S:O are back with another really good record. A great blend of Symphonic and Swing music with even traces of Electionic and Black Metal somewhere in the mix.
11. Alcest - Les voyages de l'âme
8.7 (Atmospheric Black Metal/Shoegze) - Thought this was an absolute bore-fest first spin round, but definitely grew on me with fantastic atmosphere and acoustic interludes. Favourite Track: 'Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles'
12. Be'lakor - Of Breath And Bone
8.6 (Melodic Death Metal) -- Very good release from the Australians, could this be their Magnum Opus? Possibly. But all-in-all deserves to be this high considering the maturity and songwriting of the album.
13. Haemic - Fields of Sanguine
14. Luca Turilli's Rhapsody - Ascending To Infinity
8.5 (Symphonic Power Metal) -- IMO an extremely enjoyable Power Metal release following on from Rhapsody. The styles might be almost identical, but the tracks sure do make up for it. Favourite Track: 'Dante's Inferno'
15. Corpse Garden - Burn By The Light
16. Anathema - Weather Systems
8.5 (Atmospheric Rock)
17. Pathfinder - Fifth Element
18. Mythosis - Mind Built Prison
8.4 (Progressive Metal) -- A very good EP with -core vibes, and similar to Last Chance to Reason's 'Level 2' but quite harsher and of course less of it.
19. Vertigo Steps - Surface/Light
20. Swallow The Sun - Emerald Forest And The Blackbird
21. Liberteer - Better To Die On Your Feet Than Live On Your Knees
8.3 (Anarcho-grind) -- Groovy grindcore with well placed trumpets - YES TRUMPETS! Favourite Track: 'Build No System'
22. Klor - Klor
23. Napalm Death - Utilitarian
8.1 (Grindcore) -- ND doing what they do best with no-nonsense grindcore. Not as good as 'TWFNS' but still a very good release. Favourite Track: 'Leper Colony'
24. DragonForce - The Power Within
7.9 (Power Metal) -- Still got the cheese but varies mid-tempo songs make this definitely their best album to date, and their new vocalist isn't half bad either. Favourite Track: 'Cry Thunder'
25. Terrorizer - Hordes Of Zombies
7.8 (Grindcore) -- Solid stuff with Pete Sandoval back on the drums, nothing stellar but at least it hasn't turned TOO EXTREME! Favourite Track: 'Hordes of Zombies'
26. Dissona - Dissona
27. Voin Grim - Wachsenden Winterfrost
7.6 (Atmospheric Black Metal) -- 'Cascadian' Black Metal? Sounds pretty pretentious to me but despite my first thoughts it was quite an enjoyable listen. The thin guitar sound really does hamper it from being something better though, sadly.
28. Gorod - A Perfect Absolution
29. Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht
30. Sun Devoured Earth/Wounded - Sun Devoured Earth/Wounded (Split)
7.4 -- Pretty solid Black Metal/Ambient. Nothing new, but these bands deserve a lot more recognition as musicianship is top notch and overall quite catchy.
31. Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth
7.4 (Thrash Metal) -- Marginally better than Kreator's release this year, but for me nothing really stood out for me. Solid, but not anything to get exited for sadly. Favourite Track: 'True American Hate'
32. Mysteriarch - Mournful Embrace of Aeons
33. Svartby - Elemental Tales
7.2 (Extreme Folk Metal) -- Full of catchy cheesiness and top-notch production, gets boring after a couple of listens but pretty solid stuff. Favourite Track: 'Sleepy Devils'
34. Kreator - Phantom Antichrist
7.1 (Thrash Metal) -- Pretty disappointed by this release to be honest, after being hyped over the amazing title track pre-released. Everything seems one-paced and tracks can be good, and other very boring. So I think I'm being quite generous here. Favourite Track: "Phantom Antichrist"
35. Omega Centauri - Universum Infinitum
36. Drudkh - Eternal Turn Of The Wheel
6.3 (Atomspheric Black Metal) -- Really bland black metal which fails to capture any of their dreamy atmopheres from their previous masterpieces.
37. Demoncy - Enthroned Is The Night
38. Burzum - Umskiptar
4.4 (Black Metal) -- Really disappointing release, 4.4 seems a tad high considering the songs seem to go absolutely nowhere and horrendous vocals/spoken word. For me the 'Lulu' of Burzum, but not as unbearable.
39. Victim Path - Surrounded By Pain
3.5 (Black Metal) -- Aww C'mon. This has got to be one of the worst Black Metal vocals i've ever heard. A mix between a cockerel being raped underwater by a 10-inch knife. Bland overall but those vocals bring it down a tonne, shame really since if has some really interesting parts.
40. Harbour Of Devils - What The Blood Revealed
TBC (Post-Rock/Metal)
41. Secrets Of The Moon - Seven Bells
TBC (Black Metal)
42. Profetus - ...To Open The Passages In Dusk

TBC (Atmospheric Black Metal)
58. Earth - Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II
TBC (Drone Metal)
