This was an epic year for metal in my eyes....The first time I ever heard Mirrorthrone and their "Carriers of Dust", is still one of the best releases of the 2000's. Pretty difficult list, because any of the top 5 could have made it to no.1 in any other given year and also features the best releases to date of those 5 bands.
It was also possibly the last good Keep of Kalessin album Im likely to hear in my lifetime, gorgeous debut album by the schizo-loopy DSO and the start of Amorphis' incline to one of my favourite bands with the inclusion of their new vocalist.
Good start to Ihsahn's solo career and a welcome return for Daniel Heimann with his new band Heed, after his majestic performances as vocalist for the late/great Lost Horizon! Not even close to LH when it comes to pure metal awesomeness, but still a very good album - which unfortunately turned out to be the ONLY Heed album to ever be released.
