Thumbs up: +2
This was an epic year for metal in my eyes....The first time I ever heard Mirrorthrone and their "Carriers of Dust", is still one of the best releases of the 2000's. Pretty difficult list, because any of the top 5 could have made it to no.1 in any other given year and also features the best releases to date of those 5 bands.

It was also possibly the last good Keep of Kalessin album Im likely to hear in my lifetime, gorgeous debut album by the schizo-loopy DSO and the start of Amorphis' incline to one of my favourite bands with the inclusion of their new vocalist.

Good start to Ihsahn's solo career and a welcome return for Daniel Heimann with his new band Heed, after his majestic performances as vocalist for the late/great Lost Horizon! Not even close to LH when it comes to pure metal awesomeness, but still a very good album - which unfortunately turned out to be the ONLY Heed album to ever be released.

1. Mirrorthrone - Carriers Of Dust
This guy's (yes its a one man band) talent is disgusting. Mozart metal!
2. Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Still the best album by the band to date. Bonus tracks are even better!
3. Dark Lunacy - The Diarist
DL seriously needs to release another album! This album reeks of winter and isolation.
4. Týr - Ragnarok
The most challenging, progressive and innovative album the band has put out to date.
5. Falconer - Northwind
LOVEEE this album. Supreme songwriting with vocals/melodies interwoven beautifully.
6. Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher's Ballroom
The most entertaining and unique debut album in a long time!
7. Amorphis - Eclipse
Tomi Joutsen as new vocalist turned this band on its head...and for the better!
8. Keep Of Kalessin - Armada
Very epic album, drumming that rivals Inferno and even some memorable choruses.
9. Persefone - Core
Monstrous album shifting between bombastic and tranquil. 4 songs of 70 minutes = Intense
10. Insomnium - Above The Weeping World
Proved me wrong that most bands can not release 3 awesome album
11. Ihsahn - The Adversary
Good start to his solo career, but one will find that his consequent albums were stronger.
12. Heed - The Call
Very enjoyable album, Punchy, to the point and will stick in your head for weeks.
13. Arsis - United In Regret
Technically not as strong as the debut, but still impressive.
14. Bal-Sagoth - The Chthonic Chronicles
The most goofy band in histoy of metal turns dark. Frantic and mental.
15. Kiuas - Reformation
Pretty good album, bit disappointed after the AMAZING debut they had.
16. Textures - Drawing Circles
So they were a total Meshuggah rip-off on this album - too bad - I love Meshuggah!
17. Kalmah - The Black Waltz
Hmm Groan of the Wind is fucking classic. The rest of the album is so so....
18. Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Before The Bleeding Sun
Pretty good
19. Mercenary - The Hours That Remain
One of those albums that I should LOVE but I dont. Some good songs though!
20. Zero Hour - Specs Of Pictures Burnt Beyond
No good having a top 19 is it?
