Iron Maiden's Studio albums are always in some degree good or bad or just plain awesome. Here is a list of the albums I think is best and worst! NOTE that this list is only MY opinion, I don't really care if you agree or not

Created by: Chriwalker | 17.03.2013

1. Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
2006 (This is Maiden's masterpiece imo! can't find any flaws. Highlights: The whole album from start to finish)
2. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
1988 (The Sound is plain awesome. Highlights: Infinite Dreams, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, The Prophecy)
3. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
1986 (The Sound! the futuristic sound!! Highlights: Stranger in a Strange Land, Deja Vu, Alexander the Great)
4. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
1982 (The most classic Heavy Metal album to date! Highlights: Children of the Damned, Total Eclipse, Hallowed be thy Name)
5. Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death
2003 (A really underrated album, this one shares the place with TFF. Highlights: No More Lies, Dance of Death, Paschendale)
6. Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
2010 (Fresh idea's but not enough to impress like AMOLAD had just years before. Highlights: Starblind, The Talisman, When the Wild Wind Blows)
7. Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind
1983 (Great album from the early 80's when the sound was fresh! Highlights: Revelations, The Trooper, Flight for Icarus)
8. Iron Maiden - Brave New World
2000 (Bruce rejoins Maiden and the quality is back on track! Highlights: Brave New World, Blood Brothers, Dream of Mirrors)
9. Iron Maiden - Powerslave
1984 (A very good album, but having a song like "Back in the Village" is a big minus. Highlights: Aches High, Flash of the Blade, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner)
10. Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark
1992 (Okay album, still too much week songs. Highlights: From Here to Eternity, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Fear of the Dark)
11. Iron Maiden - No Prayer For The Dying
1990 (Okay, not that great, yet it surpasses "Iron Maiden". Highlights: Tailgunner, No Prayer for the Dying, Mother Russia)
12. Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
1980 (An okey album, a bit to punk for my taste. Highlights: Prowler, Remember Tomorrow, Phantom of the Opera)
13. Iron Maiden - The X Factor
1995 (I have to admit I was surprised that it did not suck, yet its not a good album. Highlights: Sign of the Cross, Lord of the Flies, Man on the Edge)
14. Iron Maiden - Killers
1981 (Not great at all except the cover. Highlights: Wrathchild, Killers)
15. Iron Maiden - Virtual XI
1998 (Worst album Maiden ever released. Highlights: Futureal, The Clansman)

Nice list. Cool to see "Life And Death", "Seventh Son" and "Somewhere" in the top-tier. Those three are some of my absolute favorites as well. Not surprised at all seeing "XI" hitting rock bottom, and rightfully so. Ouch, little Blaze... The poor bastard sure as hell didn't have an easy task ahead of him filling the shoes of a metalgod like Bruce.

Iron Maiden - No Prayer For The Dying : their worst ever !!!

Well glad someone shares my view more or less those others have only negative opinions on my list.. Well people today really can't respect that other people likes what they like and do not really care what others are saying Blaze had it rough spot to fill yeah.

Yeah , instead of "are you kidding me?" and "what a joke", they could have said "Hmm, interesting. I disagree, but it's nice to see someone with a different taste" or just asked "What do you find so great in particular about Dance Of Death?". In that way the discussion would be more interesting for sure.
Cynic Metalhead - 18.03.2013 at 09:38
Look walker brothers, i don't know about me but for the heavyweight Metal listener like Marcel you ain't bound to get bounced up reactions like "What do you find so great in particular about Dance Of Death", " Hmm, interesting I disagree, but it's nice to see someone with a different taste"" or whatever. it's straight up what he said or any other critical Metal user gonna say that. You should btw learn to accept the "criticizing-comments-straight-on-your-face" reactions.

So basicly what you say is that you like to be rude? And you should btw learn to accept that others might not share your view.

People are different. I take it that you're a Maiden fan of the "old-school" generation? If so, then it goes a long way to maybe explain why you feel this way. Nostalgia can be a powerful thing sometimes. My first Maiden "love-affair" was with the Dance Of Death album. I have so many fond memories of that album and I love it. Maybe you feel the same towards those two first albums.

That's the most idiotic comment I have ever gotten I got my reason, for example that I don't really like Di'Anno's voice. My list stand as it does and will not change to suit anyone but myself
Jaeryd17‍ - 19.03.2013 at 11:12
If Powerslave and the debut album aren't really close to the top, this is a shit list.

What's that? They're not?

This is a shit list.
marek_kt - 19.03.2013 at 21:30

My top three : 1. Brave New World
2. The Number Of The Beast
3. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son

Those are indeed good albums! BNW has this amazing song "Dream of Mirrors" have you heard it? No but really, I'm curious what's your favourite song on BNW. Care to share?
Azarath - 19.03.2013 at 23:06
Hmm, interesting. I disagree, but it's nice to see someone with a different taste.

...

OK, that didn't work. I can certainly agree with parts of the list, but then you go and put the Di'Anno albums that low. The reunion albums are way too high as well, especially Dance of Death. And I like Maiden's new material.

Hmm, instead of arguing over someone else's list maybe I should make my own. I doubt this site needs yet another Maiden (Best to Worst) list though.

I just don't care for Di'Anno's voice sorry, and I really like the new material. Yet to clarify something: Everything from AMOLAD to Powerslave is what I find amazing, or good and to tell the truth, I have no idea if they are placed a 100% correctly! the four last is ok or terrible And no you really should not make a new list on this site, make it in your head or on paper. People here seem to hate my opinion and probably yours or another's if they made one

And quite an offensive one at that. A Matter of Life and Death at #1? Over albums like Powerslave? Killers at #14? I'd be pissed off if I wasn't laughing so hard. Also having any of the reunion albums over any of the 80s IM albums is just wrong.

Laugh all you want AMOLAD is my favourite Maiden album ever yes, I love the 80's album, I really do but Paul's voice is just not my style, and Killers imo is a awful album, it's near the worst.

Wicker Man. That was unexpected, I mean I love it as it's a great opener but personally I like the more complex songs like Dance of Death and The Legacy still Nice pick ^^

Provocative list ...

I am big fan of Iron Maiden but the world must accept that Iron Maiden is not the same band after Fear of the Dark. They was once fresh NWOBHM band, but now only a six packs playing daily heard metal. Ten+ years with three talented guitarist (and Steve Harris) they can only come out with some long hardly inspired composition. There keep coming Iron Maiden cover and tribute from many bands but they never played something beyond Fear of the DArk.... that's should speak about it.

My list is something like:
1. Powerslave
2. Number of the Beast
3. Seventh Son

The only great thing is they are absolutely the best live metal band around.

Some say this, I am a big fan myself, and I like new material just as much as the old. But everyone to they're opinion Powerslave got this horrible song "Back in the Village that ruins the complexity of the album and that's why it does not rank as high with me. I do agree that Maiden is one of the better live bands today, but there are others that are just as good

Besides WIldest Dreams, it's one of the worst songs on the album. I love the songs from Dance of Death onward, but the first 4 songs are terrible.

The Final Frontier and Dance of Death are too high in the list, ahead of 80s albums, it's ridiculous IMO. The DiAnno era albums are too low in the list.
Oh well, it's just a matter of taste I guess...
