1. Ghost B.C. - Infestissumam
Definitely the biggest surprise of the year for me. Ghost chose the difficult and risky route of progression and they succeded with flying colours. Don't expect to listen to an Opus Eponymous part 2, it is different but it still sounds like Ghost.
2. Black Sabbath - 13
The fathers of metal didn't reinvent metal nor did anything groundbreaking with this one, but it is a concrete solid album. Even though they are in their 60s, they still have more to deliver. It's good to have them back.
3. Rotting Christ - Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy
Much much better that their previous effort. It restored my faith to this band.
4. Kadavar - Abra Kadavar
I was really impressed with their 1st album and I was very curious about this one and they didn't disappoint. Pure proto-doom rock in the vein of the mighty Sabbath.
5. Clutch - Earth Rocker
Everything you loved about this band is there. They returned after a fairly long time to rock the hell out of us. It's grovey, it's fun, it's full of energy and it's pure rock n roll.
6. Inquisition - Obscure Verses For The Multiverse
7. Monster Magnet - Last Patrol
8. Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn
It exceeded any expectations I had for them. Epic, atmospheric and the unique Summoning sound are all there.
9. Centurian - Contra Rationem
Unexpectedly good comeback from one of Netherlands' finest death metal acts.
10. Thou Art Lord - The Regal Pulse of Lucifer
Greek black metal veterans Sakis Tolis and Magus do what they know how to do best.
11. Jex Thoth - Blood Moon Rise
Less doom more psychedelia. It's "softer" than the debut album and at many times it reminds me of Sabbath Assembly (Jex Thoth's other band), however I like it. The Places You Walk and Keep Your Weeds are among the best songs the band ever written, with The Four of Us Are Dying and Psyar being the other two songs that caught my attention from the first listen. The rest of the songs are good, but not as good as the aforementioned ones.
12. Katalepsy - Autopsychosis
Very powerful album. Brutal death metal done right.
13. Cultes des Ghoules - Henbane
This Polish legion goes on strong with their second offering. Great dark and occult atmosphere, strong musicianship and song-writing.
14. Exarsis - The Brutal State
One of the best thrash records of this year so far.
15. Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle
Epic as hell, very powerful debut. Clear Summoning worship (but NOT rip-off), but the fact that they tried to add some elements of their own it makes it more original and it is in their favor.
16. Demon Lung - The Hundredth Name
After they impressed with their debut EP, they returned with an equally impressive debut album.
17. Naer Mataron - Και Ο Λόγος Σάρξ Εγένετο (And The Word Was Made Flesh)
