Nice list, but I wouldn't really consider Alcest a BM band honestly... they're more shoegaze and their debut isn't really metal (same goes for Les Discrets). Still a great album of course. Ulver and Mayhem's debuts are a total classics, so I agree with those being on here. Deafheaven's album is excellent too. I prefer Spiritual Black Dimensions to Puritanical Eurphoric Misanthropia, but the latter is obviously great as well.

When it comes to (atmospheric/symphonic/folk) black metal there are a few really essential albums that come to mind (included my own ratings):
- Arcturus - Aspera Hiems Symfonia (9/10)
- Dimmu Borgir - Spiritual Black Dimensions (9,5/10)
- Dordeduh - Dar De Duh (9/10)
- Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse (9-9,5/10)
- Fen - The Malediction Fields (9-9,5/10)
- Graveworm - As the Angels Reach the Beauty (9/10)
- Inquisition - Into The Infernal Regions Of The Ancient Cult (9/10)
- Limbonic Art - In Abhorrence Dementia (9,5-10/10); probably the best black metal album ever for me.
- Old Man's Child - In Defiance of Existence (9/10)
- Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn (9,5-10/10); while being unconventional black metal, it's still a BM masterpiece.
- Vordven - Towards the Frozen Stream (9-9,5/10)
- Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters (9/10)

Aside from those 12 albums, I'd add Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain, Ulver's debut and Mayhem's debut. So that would make it my top 15 BM albums. It goes without saying that those are all recommended.

Yeah I know but Alcest is an amazing band! Les Discrets as well. I put Puritanical Eurphoric Misanthropia instead because The Maelstrom Mephisto is probably my favorite ever BM song. I've just started listening to Arcturus, great band. I've listened to half of these you mentioned, really great list! I'll check out In Abhorrence Dementia soon.

Btw I listened to Kauan's Lumikuuro, what a great album! Thanks a lot

Hey E.Mols86, because I want every album to be entirely different. If I expand the list to 20 albums then most of them will be similar in one way or another. Btw, have you heard Coldworld's Melancholie²? The album is such an amazing and haunting experience. Germans always make epic music!

Yeah Alcest and Les Discrets' music is identical haha, but those are the only 2 albums with similarity on the list. I just listened to Sunbather, it's a masterpiece IMO. Really love this band. Roads to Judah was the first Black Metal album I heard, it's the album that got me into Black Metal. But Sunbather is better, those guys are incredible.
