***I'M BACK! (sort of)***

If you're wondering what all those crazy symbols mean, keep reading this introductory text.

This list ranks all the albums I've listened to (that were released in 2014) and lists all (or most of) the ones I'm planning on listening to. I decided to get rid of the albums I didn't enjoy, because... Well... Why would I want to keep them here?

❤: Loved it (ordered according to preference)
♫: Very entertained (ordered alphabetically)
✔: Entertained (ordered alphabetically)

This list is completely personal, it's made by me and for me, because I find I listen to a lot more music because of this list and it's helpful to keep track of the ones I want to listen to (more often.) However, that doesn't mean that you can't benefit from this list! If you discover that you have similar tastes to mine then it might be a good idea to follow this list and discover great music this year! Yay! AND: If you find yourself enjoying a lot of the albums I marked "❤" or "♫" you can always leave some recommendations! Really though, recommendations are much appreciated (even if your tastes are not that similar, but you can't find your favorite 2014 album anywhere on the list. Just put it in an anger-filled ALL-CAPS comment.)

Please don't take the genres too literally, they're just a general indicator, I'm not an expert.

I like where this is going. You should make this a yearly list after you're done listening, Zap. It'd be interesting to see how your tastes match up with mine.
Lit. - 24.01.2014 at 19:46
Concerning the image, I guess an alternate name for the list could be "AM I NOT ENTERTAINED?!"

We'll see how it goes, but I might end up doing more
And I guess one of the main differences between you and me would be that you'd just have way more albums on your list and I don't like most djent, that too.

I'll think about it, I'm actually still looking for a better image

A checklist of sorts, eh? Pretty good idea. I've only listened to three 2014 albums: Hail Spirit Noir (great or even excellent album), Mechina (great stuff) and Alcest (very enjoyable relaxing music, I don't see what's so bad about it... must be cool to hate it for not being metal ).

A checklist of sorts, eh? Pretty good idea. But damn man, you've listened to a lot of new albums already in such a short time. I've only listened to 3 2014 albums: Hail Spirit Noir (great or even excellent album), Mechina (great stuff) and Alcest (very enjoyable relaxing music, I don't see what's so bad about it... must be cool to hate it for not being metal ).

For now I still have time to listen to a lot of stuff, but starting February I won't, which is why I made this list
Also, I don't hate the new Alcest, I would even say the new one is quite solid, but I just don't feel like listening to it again (not that I listen to their other albums that much). As I hope you know, I'm not afraid of music that's not metal
Scratch that, I listened to more music in February than in any other month in my life

Yeah, I know you also listen to non-metal stuff but I've seen people who hate the new Alcest because it's not metal. Obviously you're not one of those people.

But I get what you're saying. Having only spun it twice, I feel like it's nice relaxing stuff but not overly interesting music to listen to, in contrary to, say, the new Hail Spirit Noir.

Yeah Oi Magoi is quite a gem (and very fun to pronounce in all sorts of different accents)

Okay, I changed it up, looks better this way.
MechanisT - 29.01.2014 at 22:41
How's the new Contrastic EP? Is it worth my time, or has redundancy crept in their sound? Asking this coz I'm not too big on EPs, but this one's definitely piqued an interest.

Well, let's just say it entertained me, but not longer than 5 minutes. Because the whole thing literally isn't longer than five minutes. It's definitely worth your time since it barely takes any to listen to. I must say I was hesitant to put it on this list, but I decided to just put everything I listen to that's released in 2014 in here.
Has redundancy crept in their sound? A little bit. The two songs are not of the same quality found on the full-length in my opinion. It's all the way at the bottom of the albums marked "✔" for a reason, but it did entertain me.
Now, in the time it takes you to read this reply, you could have actually just listened to the damn thing (it's on bandcamp)

True. I guess I shouldn't be too picky on them for being rusty. I'll be picking this one up along the way then. Thanks for the detailed feedback matey.
And well, that's the thing. I'm hardly gonna have any time for doing even that this year so... unless it's extremely enticing, expect me to not bother trying to listen to everything/anything that comes my way. :p

So I guess we can't expect another mega-list?
And same here by the way. Starting next week I probably won't be able to listen to a lot either, so I'll just keep adding stuff to this list whenever I get the chance and then hopefully listen to most of it in August.

Haha, I'm just messing around in those lower ranked albums, but cool to see someone agree
Now I don't think Kindly Bent To Free Us is bad, I just didn't enjoy it that much but I can see it has quality. (And just for your information, I'm not a big Cynic fan so it's not like their change of sound disappointed me or anything)

Of course. Kindly Bent To Free Us will be one of THOSE albums that will contain the full range of opinions, and finding someone who didn't enjoy it really won't be hard. I just personally found it to be their best release yet!

Strange you like Graspop so much. A friend of mine wanted me to come along with him and a group of others whom I don't know, but I really didn't want to go. I care much more about the line-up than about drinking beer on the camping. In others words: in my opinion the line-up totally sucks.

Sure, the line-up in general sucks, but I still want to see Opeth, Enslaved, Nile, Gojira, Mastodon, Gamma Ray, etc.
Partying on the camping is for after the concerts, but even so I just generally have a lot more fun at a festival than I do anywhere else.

Nice to see Slugdge and Fallujah in the top few. I just started listening to Slugdge…was definitely missing out. One review I read said Slugdge sounds like the lovechild of Anaal Nathrakh and Mastodon, and I am inclined to agree lol. I really like that Fallujah album too. It's quite beautiful.
