Better than most lists of this kind, because you're not being serious... goddammit I hate lists that are exclusive to one band. I also hate this album....

If you look closely, it's actually on the bottom of the list.

Haha yeah, so much of these lists lately. Perhaps I should also make one of the best albums of a random year already very long past, like best of 1929 or so...

Yes please. And only include 2 albums and say every other album released that year sucked. Or alternatively include every album released that year and say it was the best year ever for music.

Agreed. Echoes of Battle is my favourite Summoning album though. The list creator is mixing up these two bands.

How is it overrated when you take into account that a ton of MS'ers hate this album?

The Top of 2013 would disagree with you.

Nope, big time overrated for a Summoning ripoff band.

He doesn't, but that term is pretty accurate in case of CB.

You know, the "overrated" and "rip-off band" thing is getting extremely lame and predictable by now. Instead just accept that your opinion isn't a fact, by which I mean lots of people do actually enjoy Summoning and CB and don't think they are boring or mediocre at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite. It's pathetic how many people bash these bands now that I think about it. No, rather: it's pathetic how frequently certain people bash these bands.

The only thing that's pathetic is how unbelievably frustrated and angry people people become when someone insults one of their favorite bands (which I can be accused of on occasion).

Don't turn this around now. Quite a few MS'ers are frustrated and annoyed by the fact that CB ranks so highly in the top 20. Fine by me if you hate it and think it's overrated, but I've seen so many of those posts by now, by the same users even, it's getting annoying. So no, the fact that people hate it isn't so much annoying, but rather the fact that people just don't seem to be able to shut up about it. The fact that "they" can't shut up about it is an indication of their frustration towards CB's popularity (and high rating/ranking).

Exactly.
Goddamn it. This is what I've been saying all along. And people still won't shut up about the similarities. CB themselves have even admitted being heavy influenced by Summoning and said they wouldn't even exist if Summoning hadn't existed. Let me get this straight: CB and Summoning are the only 2 (!) relatively popular bands that play a similar style of Epic Black Metal currently. There are literally a ton of other bands doing the exact same thing in other genres yet they don't get bashed for the same reasons most of the time? How ridiculous is that, really?

Because Summoning have a very singular style that hasn't been copied by an infinite number of bands as they got more and more popular (which wasn't the case with other genre-pionners).
So if out of nowhere enters a band that is clearly ripping off something that wasn't copied too much till now, they are obviously gonna have to live with it.... FOREVER ! (and just for the record before I get called a hater, I think CB is a good band, but a ripoff none the less ).

There's Emyn Muil too, if you didn't know them. If this approach to atmospheric black (which I guess you do, judging from the comments here) is something you like, I suggest you check them out too at the earliest.

Yep, what you said here is what I think as well, excluding that rip-off part. Heavily influenced by Summoning, yes, but rip-off? Nope. They have a similar style, but if their lyrical themes would've been the same (Tolkien), then I'd call them a rip-off band.

I know them, but haven't checked 'em out yet. Thanks for reminding me. Strangely enough, they aren't on MS. I just searched for them and found DarkSymphony's suggestion here:
http://www.metalstorm.net/bands/band_suggestions.php?suggested_search=emyn+muil
Already found the debut on Youtube, so will be checking that out soon.

They only sound so similar if you don't know them very well. To me even most Summoning albums are pretty different from each other. Just compare Dol Guldur to Let Mortal Heroes Sing Our Fame. Pretty different I'd say.
