Meaningful Death Metal Albums

Death metal is a genre which incorporates anger, energy, cleverness, virtuosity and creativity. Essential albums, one per band.

1. Dan Swanö - Moontower
Best death art there is, by a greatest metal artist
2. Cynic - Focus
Magical symbiosis of profound prog death and eastern motives. I enjoy all their later albums, though they dropped metal and became prog.
3. Opeth - Damnation
Established classic. Actually, there is a solid block of Still Life, Blackwater Park, Damnation and Ghost Reveries, all four are essential.
4. Pan.thy.monium - Khaooohs
Traditionally overlooked gem, by the same greatest Dan Swano. Expand to the full trilogy of albums.
5. Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
And one more by Dan, traditionally praised. Here goes the sequel. I also love Purgatory Afterglow, it's fun.
6. Disillusion - Back To Times Of Splendor
Just perfect tech death
7. Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Another perfect tech death, second item of a perfect pair.
8. Death - The Sound Of Perseverance
The say it's not quite death, but still classic prog death. Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic are also close.
9. Obscura - Omnivium
Not that mindblowing, but I love them. Cosmogenesis is a plus one.
10. Carcass - Surgical Steel
They a bit simple, but quite enjoyable. Somehow I don't like their earlier works.
11. Atheist - Elements
Great foundation of prog death. I like them less than they deserve, honestly.
12. Sadist - Tribe
Somewhat strange, but also classic
13. Hieronymus Bosch - Artificial Emotions
Well, it's the best russian prog death, so I'm being patriotic here.
14. Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles
I don't generally like brutal, but these guys are cute.
15. Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Deathly-folky-vikingly, love them.
