I finally began listening to Dark Tranquillity based on this list. Started with Fiction, and from what I can tell, they are freaking awesome. Not even a generally big fan of melodeath/gothenburg (due to lack of personal staying power), but this seems to be THE group. I shall listen carefully to all their releases, and dispute where I find it necessary.

Thanks

You're welcome!
I'm glad you found this list useful, and I definitely agree on them being THE group. That is undisputed, as far as I'm concerned. Feel free to dispute with me, but remember that I have more ammunition that you.
Take care.

Nice list. I also agree that they are the undisputed kings of melodeath/gothenburg. Although for me Damage Done and Fiction are #1(I honestly can't decide which I like more) and Projector is 2nd, I absolutely love his singing voice and am kind of sad he doesn't do it a little more often, not on every song no but on a couple per album like Fiction would be nice; Misery's Crown is probably my all time favorite song from DT.

I cant decide if i like Damage Done or Fiction more. Either way list is spot on with what im thinking, so +1

Fiction is my favorite album
Kuroboshi - 28.02.2013 at 13:17
I thought Fiction was a shrinker. Really liked it at first, but lately I just find it kinda average.

Agree with the bottom four, but I would swap the first two around with the two beneath it and put Projector above them in third.
Fritillaria - 02.03.2013 at 19:48
I would place The Gallery in first place.
MechanisT - 02.03.2013 at 20:14
The top 4 are pretty much interchangeable in terms of quality. Decimal point advantages/disadvantages here and there regarding the albums and their resultant hierarchy, as I see it.

Whoa, nice job you did there.

I'd put those three album above The Gallery as well, but I honestly cannot say which one of those three is my favourite. And I too think The Mind's I is their weakest, but admittedly I haven't heard all of DT's albums.

Yes, The Mind's I is indeed their weakest. If you haven't heard Projector and Haven yet, I insist you check them out asap. Others are probably worth skipping over. :3

Ah I see. I'll check them out then (someday ). Not really a huge fan of the band, but I definitely enjoyed most of their albums (especially those first three on this list).
