Guide To First Wave Of Black Metal
This list is a guide to the first wave of Black Metal.
Releases here are considered to be a part of the first wave
or they stylistically are similar to the first wave bands.
Some releases are of thrash/death bands but please note that
at the time first wave wasn't really homogeneous style and that
those bands are included cause they were influence to the bands
that will later form Second wave.
Have in mind that First wave ceased to exist somewhere around 1987-1989.
Releases are ordered by release year.

The first 10 albums are in pretty accurate order. However, after that, it becomes harder and harder to separate the albums clearly. Thus, you can say that I enjoy album x on the list as much as the others in the interval of (x-5) to (x+5). For example album 37 would be as much enjoyed as 32, 33, 34, ..., 42, or something like that. |

A List Of Great Debut Albums
A lot of bands have great debut albums. Obviously this list is just a fraction of all the great debut albums out there, but it's a start. I'll keep expanding this list continuously, so all suggestions are welcome. My favourite genres are Doom, Black and Gothic Metal, but I also like Progressive, Thrash and Death Metal. All albums on this list are at least worth an 8/10 rating. I included genres of each album as well. |

Hail To The King, Baby
There really is nobody else like King Diamond in the metal world, and in my observation there also isn't much of a grey area regarding enjoyment of his work. You either love him or you can't stand his voice. Myself, while I understand the criticism, I'm very firmly in that first camp, and aside from Maiden there really isn't any other individual or band that has released as many of my favorite records. |
