The Best Metal Albums* From A To # (E)

This list is meant to be an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, collection of the greatest (modern) metal albums and eps. Running the gamut from avant-garde to trve norweigan black metal. *As someone who is young in age, my tastes tend to revolve around the period of the 80s to the present.* Although certain metal albums from before will certainly be featured, the period of the 60s-70s will be under-represented. I refer you to this excellent list to gain a better appreciation for some of the best metal from that period: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/freis/martin_popoffs_the_top_500_heavy_metal_albums_of_all_time/

1.Ea - Ea Taesse
2.Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull
3.Earth And Pillars - Earth I
4.Earth Crisis - Destroy The Machines
5.Earth Rot - Black Tides Of Obscurity

Mz's Favorite Records Of Drone And Related Genres

Still not finished, as I need to rearrange, check the links and also go through the genres again. I might have forgotten many good records. In addition, my knowledge of early industrial movement is very limited, so the list is lacking on that front. Many albums on the list might also not be considered drone in a traditional sense of the word, but they need the same sort of aesthetic appreciation I guess, so I included them. The most important criteria is that the albums should rely extensively on texturing, buildup, and musical landscapes rather that being riff based.

1.
2.Boris - Amplifier Worship
3.Earth - Earth 2: Special Low Frequency version
4.Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull
5.

You Wouldn't Know What Good Art Is If It Hit You In The Face

Since we had the whole MS album art awards, I figured I would try and list out my favourites.
This is not in any order and has no relation to the music, there are bands in here that I don't like, but the artwork is still great.
I'm not quite sure of some of the illustrators and designers on some covers, so they have been left blank, if you do know who did them, let me know. If you think there are some artists that I would dig coz of similar work, just leave me a shout.
This list is not finished so I will keep adding covers that I like.
I don't like Derek Riggs work too much so don't ask me why an Iron Maiden cover is not on the list.

1.Baroness - Red Album
2.Baroness - Blue Record
3.Mastodon - Leviathan
4.Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Agorapocalypse
5.Kvelertak - Kvelertak

Crushing (Not For The Faint Of Heart)

A little list of albums that have been kicking my ass as of late. Some albums on this list may appear to be "odd" choices, but "crushing" in this context does not necessarily mean heavy. It could be referring to the emotional intensity of the release or the literal heavy pounding sound. Hope you enjoy.

Note (1): More to be added as I see fit.
Note (2): These albums are in no specific order, I have just been adding them as I see fit.

1.Esoteric - The Pernicious Enigma
2.Ahab - The Divinity Of Oceans
3.Agalloch - The Mantle
4.Warning - Watching From A Distance
5.Ulcerate - The Destroyers Of All

Iron's Post-Rock Essentials

What follows is an introductory list to some of post-rock's essential classics, contemporary landmarks as well as a few recent personal favorites - especially the kind I think can show the genre's potential for diversity. If you don't know what post-rock is about, listening to these albums should give you the cultural competence to evaluate new albums and avoid embarassing yourself in dinner party conversations. Post-rock is a controversial and vague term that even some of the genre's central figures refuse to identify with. I've used it in a fairly loose sense, including a wide spectrum of bands that all forgo rock convention.

1.Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden
2.Slint - Spiderland
3.Stereolab - Switched On
4.Bark Psychosis - Hex
5.Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

Drone Metal: The Slow Darkside

It's always the same riff? the same bass? for some reason you can't stop listening to it? it's appealing. The whole sound summons you into a spiral, a void? It's always the same thing, over and over again... it's driving you crazy, demented? it's so loud that you'll beg for someone to kill you. But the music won't let it! The music is up to kill from the inside, it's your soul it wants! That chord, trembling over and over again? ''please kill me? please for the love of God, somebody kill me!!! I can't stand it anymore!''

1.Melvins - Lysol
2.Earth - Earth 2 - Special Low Frequency Version
3.Earth - Phase 3: Thrones And Dominions
4.Boris - Absolutego
5.Thrones - Alraune

SF's Top 20 For 2008

Like my own 2009 top list, it's been extremely hard to narrow down to a final twenty because of so many releases in recent years. But twenty it is and of course, I cheated again with my other two lists of overlooked albums and influential albums. These lists are by no means a definition, but a musical statement and hopefully you reading this list can find out something you haven't heard of before and enjoy it as much as I do. Yes, some big names are missing, some are too obscure while some are too mainstream, but I listen to what I like. Just be sure to give them a go with youtube and internet downloads readily at your disposal ^ ^ Some that didn't quite make it into the list but would want to mention them anyway as they are awesome nonetheless: Bison B.C., E-Force, Hail Of Bullets, Keldian, Draconian, Deadlock, Shadowkeep, Battlelore etc

1.Oceans Of Sadness - The Arrogance Of Ignorance
2.Textures - Silhouettes
3.UnSun - The End Of Life
4.Septicflesh - Communion
5.Poisonblack - A Dead Heavy Day
