100 Greatest Metal Bands

Pretty self-explanatory, with a couple caveats: first, this is mostly just a list of my favorite metal bands in approximate order (after the top 10 or so the order matters far less), with extra weight given to influence and timelessness of sound; and second, the albums selected are not necessarily the band's "best" album, or even my personal favorite -- they are the albums that I feel best represent the band's classic sound and/or well-represent the span of their career. List includes all sub-genres of metal and some post-metal metal. Feel free to spew your hatred below. \m/ (xx) \m/

1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Iron Maiden - Powerslave
3. Metallica - Master Of Puppets
4. Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
5. Slayer - Reign In Blood

Post-stonersludge Fun

the "genres" of stoner metal, sludge, and post-metal all seem to bleed/flow together at various times so playing metal bartender, i've cooked up this list of albums those interested in the genres can use as suggestions/starting points. this is just a basic primer with 25 albums... not a definitive list by any stretch. just albums i love. some are landmark releases that helped define the genre... while others are recent releases from cool bands that MS/labels have helped me uncover. Enjoy.

1. Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops
2. Baroness - Blue Record
3. Down - NOLA
4. High On Fire - Death Is This Communion
5. Kyuss - Blues For The Red Sun

*** READ ME *** This list is about the greatest metal albums of all-time, from all sub-genres and all countries. You won't see bands like Deep Purple, Rush, BOC, Zeppelin, etc., nor will you see bands like Tool, Rage ATM, Melvins and Soundgarden. While I love many of those bands, my definition of metal does not include them.

1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
3. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
4. Death - Symbolic
5. Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath

My Favourite Bands And Then Fantastic Album Artwork That Just Got Unappreciated (I Think)

As a sequel to the last list. But au contraire. This list is over what I think are the scoldingly underrated peices of artwork concerning bands. They unfourtnately just didn't gain alot of recognition as works of artwork as I personally adore. Although not all of them very well-known I believe; I still could be wrong about their recognition. I find these to all be stashed emeralds in a abyss... in no particular order other then my rememberance.

1. Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
2. Black Sabbath - Headless Cross
3. Black Sabbath - Cross Purposes
4. Iron Maiden - Purgatory
5. Metallica - Creeping Death
