1001 Metal Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

Welcome to what I consider the "1001 Metal Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" or in other words, a list of records of various genres in the arrays of Metal and Hard Rock that I deem essential or at least very recommended to listeners of hard and heavy music. This may be a very overwhelming list but I essentially try to collect all albums in the History of Metal that strike me as worthwhile. May this be a guideline for people that seek for an entrance to a particular genre or certain bands. In no means I am saying, that this list is indisputable by any means. I consider these my personal picks for albums that should be listened to by die-hard metal fans at least once. Hopefully you can discover some new music or relate with my picks. If I missed something that you would include in such a list, please tell me in the form of a comment. Enjoy! \,,/

1.High Tide - Sea Shanties
2.Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
3.Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
4.Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come
5.Josefus - Dead Man

The Best Metal Albums* From A To # (D)

This list is meant to be an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, collection of the greatest (modern) metal albums and eps. Running the gamut from avant-garde to trve norweigan black metal. *As someone who is young in age, my tastes tend to revolve around the period of the 80s to the present.* Although certain metal albums from before will certainly be featured, the period of the 60s-70s will be under-represented. I refer you to this excellent list to gain a better appreciation for some of the best metal from that period: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/freis/martin_popoffs_the_top_500_heavy_metal_albums_of_all_time/

1.D.C. Cooper - D.C. Cooper
2.Dali's Dilemma - Manifesto For Futurism
3.Damim - The Difference Engine
4.Dämmerfarben - Im Abendrot
5.Damned Spirits' Dance - Weird Constellations

2000-2014: A 'Factored' Top 100

Take a look at the Top Album lists of recent years and you'll notice an obvious trend. In 2005 the average rating of the top 25 albums is 8.76. Jump to 2014 and the average among the top 25 has dropped to 8.26. An almost linear decrease is observable for the 10 years in between.

I was curious to see what a Top 100 for 2000-2014 would look like if I factored the votes to account for the 'rating decline'. I hope you find it interesting.

1.Agalloch - The Mantle
2.Opeth - Blackwater Park
3.Blindead - Affliction XXIX II MXMVI
4.Aquilus - Griseus
5.Nevermore - Dead Heart In A Dead World

The Best "(Melodic) Death Doom" Albums

Here's a list that contains only Death Doom and Melodic Death Doom Metal albums, so Gothic (check out my other list for that), Funeral or Sludge Doom etc. are NOT included here (but elements from those subgenres might be present in some of the albums on this list). The reason I made this list is because "death doom" is easily one of my all-time favourite subgenres of music in general. Also, there's not a single similar list on MS to be found (at least to my knowing), hence why I feel people who are into this subgenre can use this list to find out more great music. The list is ordened to my own preference and all these albums are worth at least an 8/10 (the alphabetically ranked albums on the bottom of the list will eventually be ranked among the others, but I haven't listened enough to those to do so). The styles (pure/melodic/atmospheric death doom metal) of the ranked albums are also added so it's easier for people to find what they're looking for. I only add 1 album per band for the sake of variety as well as for keeping the list comprehensible. Lastly, give me suggestions so I can check 'em out and add them to the list (only albums that are featured on MS).

1.Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
2.My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans
3.Saturnus - Paradise Belongs To You
4.Desire - Locus Horrendus - The Night Cries Of A Sullen Soul...
5.Disembowelment - Transcendence Into The Peripheral

My Top 75 Albums Of All Time

My top 75 favourite albums of all time (initially it was a top 20 list, and after that top 50). Only 1 album per band. The list is in alphabetical order, so it doesn't represent explicitly which album is my absolute favourite (I don't have one). All albums on this list have earned at least a 9/10 rating. Albums with a star (★) have received a 10/10 rating from me. I've added genres and my favourite songs.

1.After Forever - Decipher
2.Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
3.Alcest - Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde
4.Amorphis - Tales From The Thousand Lakes
5.Anathema - The Silent Enigma

Os Lusíadas: portuguese heavy metal

Back in the 2nd half of the 70's and beginning of the 80's, Heavy Metal wasn't a common expression amongst the portuguese. Portugal had just discovered that there was a real world behind the invisible wall built by the dictatorship that had fallen a few years earlier.

"Beatnicks", "Aqui De'l Rock", or "TNT" were some of the bands who had been releasing some singles and EP's of Hard-Rock at the very beginning of the 80's. They paved the rising of other bands that would work that sound, and release the first studio albums of Hard-Rock and Heavy Metal.

It was a critical decade for heavy rock in Portugal. This chronologic list of studio albums features the ones, that I believe, are the most important portuguese Hard-Rock and metal albums until today: the best and the pioneering ones. I excluded Punk-Rock but added Hardcore and Alternative Hard-Rock albums as well.

Either you're interested in portuguese music, or if you're just curious about it, or even if you are just passing by, this list will work out for you all. This list will grow bigger as the years go by of course, so if you have any suggestions, just let me know. Enjoy!

1.Roxigénio - Roxigénio
2.Ferro & Fogo - Vidas
3.NZZN - Forte E Feio
4.Vasco Da Gama - Vasco Da Gama
5.Xeque Mate - Em Nome Do Pai Do Filho ... E Do Rock'n'Roll
